Surgical Technologist - Main Operating Room - 40hr

A Surgical Technologist at this level is new to the role of a Surg Tech and requires training in order to be fully proficient in all required surgeries on infants and pediatric patients. The Surgical Technologist I provides assistance during surgical procedures by passing sterile instruments to the surgeon. As directed by the surgeon, may hold retractors, sponge or suction operative site, and apply electrocautery within the surgical technologist’s scope of practice. Performs routine and delegated duties before, during and after surgery according to Connecticut Children’s standards, policies and procedures. This includes scrubbing and other related duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to maintain sterility during surgical procedures. C.N.A. Certified Nurse’s Assistant documents personal care given according to facility policies. Provides nursing functions as directed including perineal care, making beds, turning residents, measures and records temperature, weight, pulse and respiration. C.N.A. Certified Nurse’s Assistant observes and reports to supervisor changes in residents’ condition, including any skin breakdowns. Reports immediately all accidents or injuries. Records all necessary charting entries. Answers all call lights regardless of assignment. Responds to emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Qualifications: Must hold current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing. No history of patient/resident abuse as per State Registry. Proficient in reading, writing, and following oral and written instructions. Strong attention to detail, excellent follow-through, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Team player with good cooperation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards residents and their support networks. Additional Expectations: Per diem staff are expected to fulfill (2) weekend shifts monthly to meet requirements.
