Essential Functions: Organizes and maintains health office and health records. Orders and maintains school health and first aid supplies. Reviews immunization records to insure compliance. Administers daily medications and treatments in accordance with District procedures under the supervision of the principal, as directed by the physician, and with the parental consent. Ensures medications are properly stored and secured in locked cabinets. Provides specialized health care services for accidents and illnesses of students and school personnel including assessing level of care needed. Documents accidents/illnesses and completes accident reports according to District procedures. Reports daily attendance for each class, identifies reasons for absences, notifies parents of absences and advises principal of excessive absences. Administers medication and implements specialized health care protocols (e.g. oxygen or ventilator therapies, tracheotomy suctioning, ostomy care, urethral catheterization, intravenous feeding, gastric tube feeding, SVN treatments, blood sugar monitoring, etc.) as ordered by a physician. Develops and maintains detailed care plans for students needing complex health care procedures. Notifies, advises, and updates parents regarding health care issues and medical problems involving individual and/or all students. Coordinates service for medically fragile students, both within and without the school and district; facilitates relationships and maintains ongoing communication with appropriate physicians, health service agencies, and social service agencies. Consults with principal on matters related to emergency situations, suspected child abuse, contagious diseases, or other medically sensitive situations. Acts as a team member in management team meetings by portraying an accurate picture of health and safety issues, providing student health information which may directly affect student performance, and recommending intervention with academic, social or psychological needs. As appropriate, attends IEP team meetings and is actively involved in managing complex health care plans for IEP students. Provides and presents training to students and staff on health issues such as asthma management, diabetic care, hygiene and dental care. Assesses audience age level and determines topics appropriate for group. Trains others to assist with feeding and hygiene procedures for medically fragile students, and educates staff about the care of technological devices. Organizes and performs screening procedures for hearing, vision, height, weight, blood pressure and lice. Develops and implements emergency protocols for technology dependent students. Trains staff in appropriate emergency response procedures. Remains current on health issues and changes in laws governing healthcare. SUPERVISION: Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge, after meeting all the following: · Successful completion of all FKC education and training requirements for new employees. · Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN. · Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN. EDUCATION and LICENSURE: · Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. · Current appropriate state licensure. · Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification. · Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed. EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: · Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse. · Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred).
