Our efforts are focused toward reducing patient and family stress in addition to reducing delays on the day of the procedure. The team works to ensure the proper pre-operative testing, medication instruction and other pre-surgical preparations have taken place. The Surgical Clearinghouse is a call center that provides a central location for peri-operative coordination of care. A team of clinical nurses contacts the patients and families 7-10 days prior to their scheduled surgery date to resolve any issues that could potentially be barriers on the day of surgery. Nurses also educate families on the pre-operative processes, expectations for the day of surgery, and pre-operative care. Collaboration with our social work department, surgery clinics, and surgeons allow for all issues to be resolved prior to arrival on the day of surgery. Registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require care.
