Responsibilities Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services. In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit. Medical Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) at Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital deliver quality nursing care to patients with varying psychiatric, behavioral and mental health diagnoses, ensuring their safety and continued care. Medical CRNPs are responsible for completing the following duties and tasks: Maintain a minimum caseload of 12 patients. Obtains comprehensive health history; perform physical examination on new admissions and document/dictate in patient record if applicable. Perform and/or participate in rounds of hospitalized patients, including physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic studies, interaction with nursing staff and documentation in medical record. Orders (verbal or written) common diagnostic studies, laboratory studies and pharmacologic treatment modalities according to written protocol in collaboration with the physician. Orders (verbal or written) pharmacologics if he/she has obtained prescriptive privileges as documents by a current collaborative practice agreement with a physician member of the LBHH Medical Staff and a current letter of approval pf prescriptive authority form the PA State Board of Nursing. The CRNP can only write for those pharmacologics identified on the collaborative agreement. In collaborating with the attending physician, assists in establishing diagnosis, formulation plan of care, evaluation of patient response, and revising plan of care. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback while demonstrating growth in the ability to care for increasingly complex patients. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice must complete all Clinical Nurse 1 competencies and is expected to advance to the Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague level by 18 months of professional practice. Responsibilities: Minimum Required Qualifications: RN Licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until an RN license is obtained. Individuals with Temporary Practice Permits must sit for their NCLEX within 60 days of starting in their RN role. Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN preferred. For Magnet designated RN positions, BSN or higher level nursing degree is required for incumbents based upon previously established parameters; or within three 3 years of placement in position for incumbents who started after 07 01 2020. A graduate registered nurse may only practice professional nursing under supervision and if the graduate registered nurse holds a current temporary practice permit. Supervision means that a licensed registered nurse is physically present in the area or unit where the graduate registered nurse is practicing. All Clinical Nurse 1 RN’s will be required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency Program. CPR Certification - American Heart Association AHA Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider AHA Heart Saver AMA CPR BLS certification required within 30 days of hire. A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e.not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program. Gives consideration to growth & developmental phase of life, to age related factors such as thermal regulation, nutrition, medication administration, nutrition, safety and functional needs of the patient. Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs. Ensures attention to patient’s physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Demonstrates competency in assessment skills (Includes admission and shift assessments). Performs pain assessments and intervenes to optimally meet patient’s needs for comfort. Plans clinical care based on patient’s needs and uses available resources. Performs clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure. Performs peripheral venipuncture and peripheral and central vascular access care according to policy & procedure. Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and takes appropriate actions to move patient toward reaching goals of care. Identifies situations that warrant patient rescue and takes appropriate action, e.g. Rapid Response or Code Blue. Adheres to the 5 rights of medication administration and uses the medication administration system. Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice. Adheres to aseptic technique as appropriate. Uses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift. Management Responsibilities : Ensures the patient care area is cared for, maintained, clean, and secure for patients, visitors, and staff Assists the Director and Clinical Manager with compliance for policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of care. Coordinates and facilitates the patient flow process for admission, discharges, and transfers within established guidelines. Integrates interdepartmental communication as evidenced by problem solving on the department level. Collaborates with the Nursing Office Staffing Clerk and/or Director to effectively manage the schedule in order to meet the needs of the Nursing Department. Assignments and coordination of care to support operations of the department. Participates in QI/PI projects, staff evaluations, and Nursing Departmental projects. Education Training and Experience Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. Minimum of one-year experience in specialty cluster. Training and specialty specific education programs are provided during orientation, and must be successfully completed as scheduled. Basic computer skills: keyboard, mouse use. Ability to complete data entry on clinical documentation screens. Ability to successfully complete on the job training for CCH computer programs. Ability to practice critical thinking and organizational skills . Licensure/Certification Current Pennsylvania RN License. CPR certification required; ACLS/PALS/NRP is required in IHR clusters where required by unit(s). Certification in clinical specialty is preferred.
