The Infection Preventionist coordinates investigations of patient, staff or visitor infections and/or suspected exposures and reports to appropriate internal personnel or departments and external agencies. Collaborates with the Director, Infection Prevention and control and the Hospital Epidemiologist to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection and ensure the safety and health of all personnel. The Infection Preventionist participates in the conduct of research. Responsibilities Carries out the RUMC program to prevent infections in the hospital, ambulatory care sites, university, and research laboratories. Implements the annual Infection Prevention and Control program and plan which includes prioritized risks, goals and review of activities. Contributes to the annual review of the Infection Control and Prevention program. Reviews policies and procedures from the perspective of infection prevention and control. Implements infection prevention and control measures recommended by the Infection Prevention and Control Committee (IPCC), Health Alert Network (HAN) and the department of health. Participates in the assessment of new products or equipment for potential risk of spreading infection prior to purchase. Participates in programs to vaccinate or medicate medical center and university staff against influenza or other communicable disease (HDVRT). Acts as a consultant to address cleaning, disinfection and sterilization practices. Conducts infection surveillance activities throughout the medical center. Implements a priority-directed methodology for surveillance. Inspects patient care environments to detect possible infection hazards. Evaluates compliance with medical center infection control policies. Communicates with employee health staff to monitor and treat personnel for actual or potential exposure. Evaluates new construction or renovation projects and communicates strategies to minimize dust contamination and identifies design decisions that may increase risk of infection. Represents Infection Prevention and Control on task forces and committees. Investigates and takes action to minimize potential outbreaks of infectious diseases. Investigates clusters of infections, documents the infection, and determines if cluster is beyond an acceptable level. Develops reduction strategy, assists with implementation and reports findings/outcomes. Analyzes data on epidemiologically significant organisms and nosocomial infections. Participates in special studies under the direction of the IPCC or the Director, Infection Prevention and Control. Advises clinical staff on the appropriate utilization of isolation. Responds to and identifies emerging pathogens and threats in concert with the Hospital Epidemiologist and Section of Infectious Diseases. Collaborates with Employee and Corporate Health Services (ECHS) to develop and implement strategies that reduce the risk of infectious disease transmission to healthcare providers. Investigates infections, as necessary, in employees, university staff and student populations. Contributes data to reports on infections and surveillance activities to departments, medical center quality committees, public health agencies and centers for disease control. Enters data into the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and verifies data prior to submission to NHSN. Extracts preliminary and/or final reports. Prepares reports on infection prevention and control activities for the IPCC. Supports the IPCC as a member and subject matter expert. Participates in response to Infectious Disease emergencies at the medical center or in the community. Participates in the planning and development of infectious disease related emergency response plans. Represents Infection Prevention and Control in emergency response. Participates in the post-event evaluation of the event or drill. Teaches educational programs for volunteers, staff, faculty, and students on infection prevention and management. Assist in developing a written plan of care for each customer that identifies the problems/needs of the customer. Attends and actively participates in customer care plan conference as directed. Report all concerns, complaints made by the customer or their family to the Administrator. Counsel/discipline nursing personnel as requested or as necessary. Make daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel are performing required duties, and to ensure appropriate procedures are being followed. Make physical rounds to all customers daily. Complete required assessments upon the customer’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge. Receive telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form and P.O.S. Record new/changed diet orders. Forward information to the Dietary Department. Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with our established Charting and Documentation Policies and Procedures. Responsible for completion of admission, discharge, and transfer processes. Prepare and administer medications and treatments if appropriate as ordered by the physician. Review medication record for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order, and adherence to stop order policies. Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, care of the dead/dying, etc., as required. Participate in the orientation of new customers/family members to the facility. Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician. Notify the customer’s attending physician and family when there is a change in the customer’s conditions. Obtain sputum, urine and other lab tests as ordered. Take and record TPR’s, blood pressures, accuchecks, etc., as necessary. Contact the customer’s physician for: Nursing assessment of change of condition. Medication orders or charges. To inform of incidents. To report abnormal results of Lab and X-ray. Anything else pertinent to the customers’ care and well-being. Activity Aide (Full-time & weekends) Position Summary This position is to support the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs for residents in supportive living and memory care. This role plays an important part in creating a positive, engaging, and meaningful environment that enhances residents’ quality of life. This is a full-time position with rotating weekends. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activity programs and quality assurance initiatives for the Activities Department. Observe resident participation, mood, behavior, and engagement during activities, documenting and reporting progress as appropriate. Maintain accurate and descriptive activity notes that reflect services provided and residents’ responses. Help create a warm, welcoming, and uplifting atmosphere throughout the community. Build positive working relationships with all departments to ensure daily operations run smoothly and efficiently. Prepare activity rooms and common areas for scheduled programs and assist with clean-up after events and activities. Follow resident care plans when providing daily activities and individualized engagement. Assist with purchasing department supplies, and activity materials as needed. Maintain confidentiality of resident information and comply with all HIPAA and facility guidelines. Supervise and engage residents during activities to support their physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being. Visit residents who remain in their rooms and provide one-on-one engagement such as conversation, letter writing, crafts, games, and other personalized activities. Recommend activity equipment and supply needs to supervisors to help enhance programming. Comfortable leading and collaborating with volunteers in a professional and supportive environment. Willing to learn and confidently fill in for the receptionist role as needed. Qualifications Previous experience in a Long-Term Care or Activities Department is preferred but not required. Must have a positive attitude, patience, compassion, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with residents at varying levels of functioning. Self-motivated and dependable team player who takes initiative and works well independently. Professional, reliable, and committed to providing high-quality resident experiences. Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the workday and assist with activity-related tasks. Ability to manage the mental and emotional responsibilities of the position in a professional manner. Must demonstrate flexibility, integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, and outside agencies. Ability to work closely and compassionately with elderly residents. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift up to 25 pounds and transport items as needed. May be required to assist with resident evacuation procedures during emergency situations.
