Overview The Certified Nursing Assistant assists the clinical staff in the care of and treatment for patients in an acute care setting under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities may vary based on department assignment. Responsibilities Patient Care Activities Participates in nursing reports by receiving and contributing to status report of patients. Assists with or transports patients as necessary. Collects appropriate specimens and labels specimens at the bedside properly. Transports in a proper and timely manner. Reports and/or records any changes observed in condition or behavior of the patient. Utilizes restraints as per physician order and only as a last resort. Appropriately monitors and assures appropriate device is used. Frequently toilets patients. Ambulates patients. Utilizes lift equipment appropriately and safely for all lifts/transport. Applies and utilized gait belt appropriately to assist patients. Ensures accurate and timely documentation using the electronic medical record and assuring use of own login at all times.
