185758 Job Description Provides nursing services to ill or injured employees. Conducts health assessments including employment and periodic medical assessments, as well as assessments of workers exposed to specific health hazards. Provides services that support employee health and wellness, and enhance employee health and performance through case management, health coaching, worksite based health surveillance and health and safety education. Job Responsibility Performs a plan of care for patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Assesses the work environment for potential health and safety problems; conducts a range of assessments and inspections, in conjunction with regulations, such as display screen equipment (DSE), personal protective equipment (PPE) and the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH). Designs, develops and delivers new initiatives, policies and procedures on health education/promotion and accident/disease prevention; delivers health and safety training, provides first aid and medical treatment and communicates safety concerns to appropriate managers. Maintains employee health records and prepares accident reports; conducts accident investigations and investigates the causes of common injuries. Provides pre-employment medical assessments including hearing and vision screening, and health and fitness advice. Maintains first-aid kits, pharmaceutical and vaccination supplies; orders new supplies and destroys out-of-date items as necessary. Provides an effective and early return to work and/or facilitates restoration of the employee’s health to an optimal level of functioning through both work-related and non-work related case management; contacts doctors and/or hospitals, as necessary, to arrange further treatment. Monitors employee exposure to hazardous chemicals or harmful biological agents. Keeps up to date with legal and professional changes associated with occupational health and safety; ensures organization meet legislative requirements. Performs related duties as required. Job Qualification Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred. Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two (2) years and obtain a BSN Degree within five (5) years of job entry date. Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed. Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) required within two (2) years of job entry date. Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position: Under direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the nursing service and nursing education programs of a health care setting or diagnostic and treatment center; performs related tasks. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Develops, establishes and implements the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of the Nursing Department. Organizes the Nursing Department to delineate authority, functional responsibilities and lines of communication. Coordinates functions of nursing services with other disciplines, collaborates with administrative staff, other department staff and representatives of allied groups in planning services. Determines staffing requirements in relation to patient care standards and develops procedures to maintain an adequate, competent nursing staff. Maintains a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients. Maintains up-to-date policy procedure manuals for all nursing units and evaluates their effectiveness. Establishes an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports. Directs the preparation of the personnel, equipment and supply budgets for the Nursing Department. Directs the development and implementation of orientation, training and continuing education programs for nursing personnel. Initiates and participates in studies and research projects. Utilizes findings to improve patient care and administrative services. Plans for and coordinates use of clinical facilities by colleges and other agencies for nursing education purposes. Participates in the development of policies and health programs for the health care setting and System policies and programs involving nursing. Develops and maintains sound relationships with the community, labor and professional groups in developing nursing programs and policies. May serve as a consultant for the System for the overall nursing practice, service and education programs; conducts related studies and directs projects, provides leadership in Central Office in the development, coordination and evaluation of System’s central and health care setting nursing services, practice and education programs. Attends community conferences and committee meetings with administrative, Medical Board and department heads. Conducts and chairs staff meetings and working committees with all levels of nursing personnel. Minimum Qualifications A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing Administration or a related field and four (4) years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three (3) years of which must have been in a hospital; or A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Department Preferences Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technology implementations and cross-functional initiatives. Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, regulatory standards, data governance, and clinical workflows.
