The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following: Locating patients, obtaining accurate vital signs by visual and auditory measures, triaging patients, assessing patients’ medical condition, and preparing patients for physicals and medical treatment by Physicians and Nurses; Understanding and using the electronic medical record system; Ordering lab, x-ray, and medical supplies as directed; Notifying the Nurse and/or Physician when the patient is ready for exam while communicating symptoms and relaying questions about lab or x-ray needs; Assisting Nurses and Physicians with various forms of patient treatment and care; Handling Physician and Nurse requests with respect and in a timely manner; Performing lab duties as assigned; Performing phlebotomy procedures; Sterilizing and setting up instruments; Receiving and storing supplies; restocking treatment rooms as needed; Reporting to the Charge Nurse before leaving at the end of the shift; Following ancillary guidelines as deemed necessary by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, DMS, and Physician; Adhering to established policies and procedures; Maintaining cleanliness of the treatment area and completing biological cleanup in accordance with OSHA guidelines and other maintenance assignments as directed; Washing, drying, folding, and restocking laundry; maintaining the cleanliness of the washing machine and dryer lint trap; Attending staff meetings as scheduled by the Nurse Supervisor or DMS; Operating, using, and maintaining medical and office equipment as trained; Completing assigned checklists and Policy Manager tasks within the assigned shift; Being available to assist as needed, as breaks and mealtimes may be interrupted at any time to provide necessary patient care or to maintain center operations; Fostering teamwork and ensuring a positive and professional atmosphere; Providing positive, warm, and friendly service in all interactions; Understanding and performing all duties as assigned. Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following: Must be 18 years of age or older; Minimum typing experience; High school graduate or equivalent; Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a hospital or physician’s office preferred; Ability to hear pages, bells, and phone system; Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time (possibly 4 to 7 hours at a time); Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Ability to attend scheduled CPR classes and code drills; Ability to prioritize and multitask; Willingness to work at any center due to a staffing or center emergency or reduction of work. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Salary Range: $19.50 - $22.00, depending on experience. Position Summary Belcara Health is seeking a professional, organized, and patient-focused Medical Assistant (MA) to support our Plastic Surgery team. The primary focus of this position is to ensure an efficient, welcoming, and well-managed patient experience from the time the patient is brought into the clinical area through completion of the visit. The Medical Assistant is responsible for rooming patients, initiating visit documentation, completing the Review of Systems (ROS), supporting patient flow, communicating wait times and delays, and assisting providers with procedures and treatments as needed. The ideal candidate is attentive, efficient, comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, and committed to providing an exceptional patient experience. This is a full-time, onsite position located in Baltimore, Maryland. Primary Responsibilities Patient Rooming & Visit Preparation Promptly greet and room patients in a professional and welcoming manner. Confirm patient identity and prepare the patient for the scheduled visit. Obtain and document appropriate vital signs, medications, allergies, and other required clinical information. Ensure exam and procedure rooms are appropriately stocked, clean, and prepared for each patient. Anticipate provider needs based on the patient's visit type, procedure, or treatment. Clinical Documentation Start the patient's visit note before the provider enters the room. Review and update relevant patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Complete and accurately document the Review of Systems (ROS) with the patient. Document the patient's primary concerns and reason for the visit according to established clinical workflows. Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, timely, and ready for provider review. Patient Flow & Time Management Actively monitor the provider's schedule and patient flow throughout the day. Maintain awareness of how long patients have been waiting in exam rooms. Help keep visits moving efficiently while maintaining a high standard of patient care. Identify potential delays and communicate them promptly to the provider and appropriate team members. Prioritize tasks based on patient needs and the demands of the clinical schedule. Patient Communication & Wait-Time Management Proactively notify patients when the provider is running behind schedule. Provide patients with realistic updates regarding anticipated wait times whenever possible. Check in with patients who have experienced an extended wait rather than allowing them to remain without communication. Respond professionally and empathetically to patient concerns regarding delays. Escalate significant delays or patient concerns to the appropriate team member when necessary. Procedures & Treatments Assist Plastic Surgery providers with procedures and treatments as needed and within the Medical Assistant's training and scope of practice. Prepare patients, rooms, supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures and treatments. Assist providers during in-office procedures and treatments as directed. Maintain appropriate sterile or clean technique based on the procedure and established clinical protocols. Assist with patient positioning, comfort, and safety during procedures. Provide or reinforce provider-directed pre- and post-procedure instructions as appropriate. Clean, disinfect, and prepare rooms and equipment following procedures according to established protocols. Anticipate provider needs to support safe, efficient procedures and minimize unnecessary delays. Clinical & Team Support Assist Plastic Surgery providers and clinical team members throughout the patient visit. Support efficient room turnover between patients. Maintain appropriate clinical supplies and notify the appropriate team member when supplies need to be replenished. Follow Belcara Health policies related to patient privacy, infection prevention, safety, and clinical documentation. Collaborate with providers, nurses, medical assistants, patient coordinators, and other team members to create a seamless patient experience. Other Duties & Responsibilities The Medical Assistant may be asked to support additional clinical and operational needs of the Plastic Surgery practice, including: Assist with stocking, inventory management, and organization of clinical supplies. Prepare clinical areas for the start of the day and assist with end-of-day responsibilities. Assist with cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining exam and procedure rooms. Support patient education and reinforce provider instructions as directed. Assist with clinical photography and other documentation according to practice protocols. Support pre-operative and post-operative patient workflows as assigned. Assist with coordination of laboratory specimens, testing, or other clinical orders as appropriate. Respond to patient messages or clinical requests as directed by the provider or clinical leadership. Assist other providers or clinical departments when coverage or additional support is needed. Participate in team meetings, training, and process-improvement initiatives. Maintain required certifications, training, and competencies. Follow all applicable OSHA, HIPAA, infection-control, safety, and Belcara Health policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the practice. Plastic Surgery Clinic Responsibilities Room patients for plastic surgery and post-operative appointments Obtain and document patient histories, medications, allergies, vital signs, and Review of Systems Prepare patients for provider examinations and treatments Assist plastic surgeons with in-office procedures and treatments Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient education Review surgical instructions and help ensure patients are appropriately prepared for surgery Perform post-operative assessments, dressing changes, and wound care as directed Respond to clinical patient questions and escalate concerns to the appropriate provider Assist with patient phone calls, portal messages, prescriptions, and clinical documentation Help manage patient flow and communicate delays or changes to patients and team members Maintain appropriate clinical supplies and treatment rooms Operating Room Responsibilities Prepare the operating room for scheduled plastic surgery procedures Assist with pre-operative patient preparation and surgical safety processes Serve as a circulating RN during surgical procedures Maintain sterile technique and ensure adherence to infection-control and patient-safety standards Complete required intraoperative documentation Assist the surgical and anesthesia teams throughout procedures Participate in surgical counts, specimen handling, medication documentation, and other OR processes Support patient transition throughout the perioperative experience Assist with room turnover, supply management, and preparation for subsequent procedures Follow all surgery center policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements PACU & Recovery Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures Receive patients from the Operating Room and complete appropriate post-anesthesia assessments Continuously monitor vital signs, airway status, oxygenation, level of consciousness, pain, nausea, and overall recovery Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the surgeon and anesthesia provider Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and established protocols Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other common recovery needs Monitor surgical sites, dressings, drains, and other post-operative needs Maintain accurate and timely PACU documentation Ensure patients meet established discharge criteria prior to discharge Review post-operative instructions, medications, restrictions, and warning signs with patients and their responsible caregivers Ensure patients and caregivers understand follow-up instructions and when to contact the surgical team Facilitate a safe and comfortable discharge from the surgery center Maintain PACU readiness, supplies, equipment, and emergency preparedness Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team to provide safe continuity of care Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Maryland BLS certification required ACLS certification preferred or ability to obtain Previous operating room, perioperative, PACU, or surgical nursing experience strongly preferred Plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, ambulatory surgery center, or outpatient surgical experience is a plus Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills Excellent communication and patient-service skills Ability to work effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative team members Comfortable working across the clinic, OR, and PACU environments Highly organized with strong attention to detail Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist wherever needed to support the team and our patients Why Join Belcara Health? About this Job: General Summary of Position Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Assists medical and nursing staff with procedures and/or tests and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection electrocardiography (EKG) and documentation in the health record.Incumbents in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality and safety standards and SPIRIT Values. Complies with governmental regulations and accreditation standards. Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal hygiene including bathing mouth care dressing skin care positioning feeding ambulation toileting and range of motion activities. Assists with patient mobilization and rehabilitation use of crutches and walkers and transfer/transport of patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Collects specimens (e.g. blood urine sputum stool); and obtains EKGs. Assists in the measurement and documentation of patient's intake and output (I&O). Accurately takes and records patient's vital signs height and weight pulse oximetry point of care and waived testing (i.e. finger sticks for glucose monitoring/Accucheck urine dipstick hemoccult) and other pertinent data or information in the patient's health record. Performs routine sterile non-sterile (e.g. application of thermal soaks) and other treatments/activities identified by Unit/Hospital policy inclusive of but not limited to: tube feedings; ostomy care; Foley Catheter care; perineal care; simple dressing changes and wound care; turning and positioning; postmortem care and transportation of body to the morgue; and assistance with the application maintenance and removal of traction casts splints and exercise equipment. Maintains the comfort privacy and confidentiality and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services. Performs patient observation duty including 1:1 observation and safe application of restraints. Prepares patients to be seen by providers. Assists providers and registered nurses in patient examinations and procedures. Rounds on all assigned patients based on established standards (e.g. hourly purposeful rounding). Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients/families including changes in the patient's condition to the registered nurse and other care team members as necessary. Ensures complete hand off to oncoming shift and obtains full hand off from outgoing shift. Initiates and assists in CPR when indicated. Participates in patient/family teaching as directed and responds to questions from patients families and visitors in a prompt courteous and respectful manner referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary. Maintains the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment by distributing and changing linen/towels removing used meal trays checking bed siderails and safety restraints etc. Assists with environmental services support such as linen management trash removal and cleaning patient rooms as needed. Transports and/or escorts patients during discharges transfers and/or medical appointments. Completes errands such as delivering specimens to the laboratory equipment and supplies etc. as required. Receives and stocks equipment and supplies and maintains orderly supply and utility rooms. Attends staff meetings ongoing educational offerings and participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Minimal Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. Experience Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred General health care experience in an acute care long-term care or other settings preferred Student nurse in junior or senior year preferred One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
