Surgical Technologist Coordinator

Location: Parkland: 3rd FLR BLK 400 Primary Purpose Works with OR Leadership, RN Unit Based Educator, and OR RN Residency Educator to ensure that staff functioning in the scrub role are appropriately trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to AST, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI, and those of Parkland. Performs various other training duties related to Parkland employees. Education •Requirements for Practicing Surgical Technology in the State of Texas (per Texas H.B. 643-Chapter 259) •Has successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical Technologist and holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist by: the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor, the National Center for Competency Testing or its successor, another surgical technologist certification program approved by the department, or •Has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service. Experience •Must have a minimum of four years' experience as a Surgical Technologist. Equivalent Education and/or Experience •May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above. Certification/Registration/Licensure •In addition to State of Texas requirements, reference above education requirements. Must have a current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association American Red Cross Rescuer Military Training Network Skills or Special Abilities •Must be able to demonstrate a basic working knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments and procedures. •Must be able to set priorities and perform under stressful situations. •Must be able to demonstrate knowledge in use of aseptic techniques. •Must be able to recognize and correct immediately any breaks in aseptic technique. •Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. •Must be able to work a change in shift, or flexible hours when the work requires such changes. •Must be able to communicate effectively with hospital staff. •Must be able to demonstrate patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors. Responsibilities Works with the RN Unit Based Educator to orient new employees and students to the department, including the hospital's job description for surgical technologists, the policies and procedures of the department/hospital, the availability and location of educational resources, and all safety precautions and emergency protocols. Makes arrangements for the individual preceptor(s) for each student/orientee. Assigns appropriate cases to each orientee/student. Monitors each student/orientee's progress throughout the course of the day. Makes himself/herself available for staff serving in the scrub role's questions and learning needs. Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model for students, orientees, and existing staff. Promotes patient safety as well as safety for staff serving in the scrub role. Creates a positive and supportive learning environment, including being an advocate for the student/orientee's status as a learner. Makes systematic observations and objective judgements about student/orientee performance. Meets with student/orientees on a regular basis in order to provide feedback and touch base. Meets regularly with the RN Unit Based Educator and Unit Manager to maintain productive two-way communication with Operating Room personnel. Participates in continuing education seminars and in professional development opportunities in order to maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills. As well as, satisfies the responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist employed here at Parkland Hospital as published under job code T267. Senior Registered Nurse - Oncology Infusion Services

Work Schedule - Days Shift - 8 am to 5pm Monday- Friday Full Time PRIMARY PURPOSE The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery, that focuses on a particular patient population(s)/specific health conditions, by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. Description Job Responsibilities: Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, intake, and prioritize patient care Perform procedures (venipuncture, IV insertion, urinary straight cath), administer medications (oral, rectal, IM, and IV), and assist the physician with total patient care within the scope of practice Remaining knowledgeable in pediatric pharmacology Be an integral part of the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice Perform monthly quality control checks in the office Assist in performing quality control testing in the lab Ability to assist the physician with patient care, positioning, and comfort during the x-ray process Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization tools and equipment as required Practice standard safety practices and precautions Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies and promptly notifies physician Establish effective rapport with clients, families, other employees, and physicians Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to management team Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential in compliance with HIPAA regulations Updates knowledge by participating in continuing education requirements and opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and challenging requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments Assisting patients with complaints and taking an active role in service recovery when needed Assist physician with a focus on efficiency metrics to improve urgent care flow and throughput (Arrival to Room, Arrival to Medication Administration, Disposition to Discharge, Discharge Length of Stay) Qualifications Pediatric experience is required; Pediatric ER, Pediatric hospital unit, or Pediatrics Urgent Care Experience preferred Active state nursing license or active compact state licensure from the state you reside Prior experience and competency with nursing procedures (not limited to IV placement, urinary straight catheterization, and medication administration) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended Knowledge of medical practice and terminology, clinic’s processes, and procedures Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments Skill in rapid assessment of the critical presentation of the pediatric population Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment and act calmly in emergencies Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and nonverbally Possess the following qualifications: Energetic, Highly Motivated, Customer Service Focus, Positive Attitude, Confidentiality, Teamwork, and Professionalism Compensation: $27 - $36/hour The salary/rate range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary/rate for this role.
