Description The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Responsibilities Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. Position Summary To fulfill the needs of Diagnostic Imaging patients in a variety of age groups, their family members, and the community by performing varied patient care tasks and functions in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements. Education Bachelor`s degree in Nursing required. Current/valid State of New Jersey license (or legal permission to work from the New Jersey Board of Nursing). Completion of general nursing orientation, CPR, ACLS and PALS certification and unit-based orientation. Schedule: Shifts are 8 hours every weekend Saturday and Sunday, varied start times (7am to 8:30 am) based on the needs of the department. Experience Computer and keyboard skills. Medical terminology required. Cat Scan and MRI experience preferred but will provide unit-based training to qualified candidates. Radiology experience preferred; however, willing to train experienced applicants . Skills Physical and cognitive requirements: Position's physical requirements necessitate a full range of body motion including but not limited to, physically assisting patients, requiring stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, kneeling, stooping, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. Position is classified according to the USDOL as Very Heavy Work which is defined as exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
