Child Psychiatric Unit The inpatient Child Psychiatric Unit is a 12-bed unit. It is a short-term child oriented program designed to provide crisis intervention and stabilization to children 3-13 years of age. The average length of stay is three to seven days. Each patient receives an initial psychiatric evaluation upon admission. While on the unit treatment may include additional psychological and medical evaluations as needed. Adolescent Psychiatric Unit The Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (APU) is a 14-bed short-term treatment unit that provides an extensive bio-psychosocial and treatment services to the adolescent population between 14-17 years of age. The program is designed to provide a safe and therapeutic environment to facilitate stabilization, evaluation, treatment, and follow up care of the hospitalized adolescent. Milieu Management is utilized to effect a positive change in the patient’s behavior by providing a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages and reinforces constructive interactions with others. The treatment team can consist of the following: Attending Psychiatrist, Individual Therapist (Residents/Fellows), Medical Students, Psychology Interns, Family Therapist (LSW), Expressive Art Therapist, Educational Assistant, Registered Nurses, and Child Psychiatric Specialists. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. Presenting conditions are triaged and assigned to the appropriate treatment area utilizing the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) tool, which takes into account patient acuity and resources needed for management. Presenting conditions range from mild to life-threatening. Mild to moderate conditions include common pediatric conditions such as: common colds, rashes, strep throat, upper respiratory conditions, lacerations, otitis media, strains and sprains, etc. More complex to life threatening conditions include child abuse/neglect, sexual assault, behavioral emergencies, meningitis, sepsis, burns, acute medical, surgical and trauma conditions, anaphylaxis, respiratory and cardiac arrest. The EMTC can provide emergency stabilization and treatment of adults and arrange for transfer to the appropriate treatment site after medical screening and initial interventions. We are hiring registered nurses to support our patients outside of the emergency room or inpatient environment. Oncology competency-based education and training will be provided for the non-oncology nurse. The Ambulatory Oncology Evaluation and Treatment Center (OETC) is designed to treat and support cancer patients experiencing acute symptoms and toxicities related to their treatment and keep them out of the Emergency Department and hospital. As part of safely managing our patients, during the peak of the pandemic, we quickly renovated space and stood up a second Urgent Care BIO Clinic (negative pressure) for testing and treating COVID positive oncology patients for urgent care needs or to continue their planned chemotherapy and immunotherapy infusions. Today, the area has been renovated for expansion with one contiguous space providing 24-hour care and includes two negative pressure rooms, two procedure rooms and a total of 14 treatment bays.
