These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting. Respond to life saving situations based upon standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations. Ensure patient immunizations are appropriate, well documented and administered using approved techniques. Conduct provider referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as needed basis. Document past medical history assessment of patients. Rotate among various clinical services such as lab, medical assistant, and front desk. Prepare rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures. Ensure work area is neat and clean, fully stocked and ensure all laundry items have been laundered and put away. This unit is a new concept unit with a combination of both observation (14 beds) status and inpatient status (8 beds) patients. Our observation beds take a variety of patients requiring further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then our department will take them. Our top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. We also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. When a patient requires care longer than 24-48 hours, we will transfer to an inpatient status and move to one of our inpatient beds or another inpatient unit in our hospital. Job Requirements Our Registered Nurses provide high quality patient care to patients suffering from the most advanced stage of chronic kidney disease, known as End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Nurses are on the front line of patient care, improving the quality of life of every patient. This role is all about the relationships and bond you will create with patients and their families. Work Experience Associates Degree in Nursing (A.D.N) from accredited school of nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); three year diploma from accredited diploma program may be substituted for nursing degree. Registered Nurse License in the state of practice. Current BLS/CPR certification required. Meets all applicable state/licensing requirements. Previous dialysis, ICU, CCU, ER, or Med Surg nursing experience is preferred but not required.
