DUTIES: 1. Assess and evaluates students health pertinent family history and home factors, counsel students, parents and school personnel about health problems and issues. 2. Medication administration to students with parent/guardian and physician consent 10. Perform site mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, TB testing and other health related activities as deemed appropriate by state and city departments of public health 11. Provide information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with health education programs as requested by administrators 12. Participates in school health related activities as deemed appropriate for school nurse by principal/supervisor 13. Acts as a resource in health education to students and families 14. Initiate, promote, maintain and implement programs for the recognition, prevent and control of disease, including giving immunizations. 15. Collaborate with staff in school and health centers. 16. Sport Physical clearance coverage as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a current valid, license to practice as a Nurse in Massachusetts. Yes Essential Functions -Establish rapport with patients and families from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. -Communicate patient and family difficulties and concerns to appropriate staff. -Maintain patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and follow guidelines under HIPAA. -Provide care based on age-specific needs of patient. -Involve interpreter services as necessary. -Greet patients and families promptly in a welcoming and courteous manner. -Follow CDH policy when treating and greeting patients by verbally confirming patients’ two identifiers. -Respond promptly and courteously to requests for assistance by patients, families, visitors and staff. -Provide clear and accurate information. -Assist patients as needed responding to special needs such as wheelchairs, etc. -Obtain and record vital signs, pain screen, weights, and heights accurately in appropriate Electronic Medical Record. -Report changes and/or abnormalities in vital signs, unusual findings, and changes in patient’s condition to the nursing/medical staff in a timely manner. -Obtain specimens (urine, stool, sputum, etc.) and/or instruct patients/family members in collecting specimens. -Assist nursing and medical staff with procedures as requested. -Obtain vital signs before and after each procedure and gathers appropriate paperwork. -Collaborate with ancillary and medical staff in preparing the patient and family for procedures and treatments through verbal explanation, emotional support, and sharing educational materials. -Demonstrate proficiency in technical skills, e.g., phlebotomy, (adapting technique as necessary for various age groups) and slide preparation as applicable. -Perform activities related to efficient clinic operations and patient flow: -Manage room assignments in order to maintain patient flow. -Strategize the day’s workload and make recommendations to doctors and others accordingly. -Have ability to manage walk-in patients and wait times when assigning rooms. -Partner with MD’s, Nurses and other clinic assistants to discuss assignments room flow. -Monitor waiting room and inform patients of delays, escort patients to appropriate exam room and or infusion area. -Transport patients, medical records, specimens, blood components, equipment and supplies in accordance with CDH policy. -Ensure that all clinical areas have an adequate stock of medical supplies, equipment, and patient education materials. -Obtain and order supplies and equipment when needed. -Ensure that supplies are adequate and equipment is in proper working order. -Monitor for safety, cleanliness, and expiration dates on a daily basis. -Ensure supplies are fully stocked throughout the day. -Clean and maintain medical equipment. -Notify appropriate personnel of equipment, supplies, or patient care areas that require cleaning or repairs. -Identify patients that require Infection Control precautions and take appropriate steps. -Inform providers and staff of such patients by monitoring patient assignments. -Maintain a working knowledge of current computer system used in clinical area and how to access the help desk for work tickets. -Understand and utilize pager systems including text paging staff. -Answer phones when coverage is necessary and triage as appropriate. -Direct patients to appropriate waiting areas, exam rooms, and other patient care areas. -Work collaboratively and functions as an effective member of the health care team. -Demonstrate respectful and courteous behavior toward peers, co-workers, and visitors. -Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with peers and coworkers. -Maintain flexibility in setting and changing priorities. -Adapt to new situations. -Accept additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of patients, families, staff, and the unit. -Demonstrate appropriate response to emergency situations. -Contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic by using time wisely and taking the initiative to assist others. -Attend and participate in staff, unit, and department meetings. -Contribute to quality improvement efforts. -Suggest improvements in procedures, processes, and systems. -Take initiative to report problems and suggest solutions and alternatives. -Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards. -Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise. -Meet annual competency and retraining requirements. -Ensure staff meets annual competency and retraining requirements. -Attend meetings as required. -Perform other functions/duties as requested. This unique position provides an experienced RN leader with a structured 90-day pathway to becoming Director of Nursing Services. Rather than stepping immediately into the full responsibilities of a DNS position, the DNS-IT will work alongside experienced nursing leadership and Apple Rehab's Corporate Clinical team while progressively assuming responsibility for the clinical operations of the facility. What the 90-Day Pathway Looks Like · First 30 Days: Learn the building, residents, nursing team, clinical systems, staffing, regulatory history, and current clinical priorities while working closely with experienced nursing leadership. · Days 31-60: Begin assuming greater ownership of daily clinical operations, nursing leadership, staffing, quality initiatives, survey readiness, and staff accountability. · Days 61-90: Progressively function at the DNS level while continuing to receive mentorship, support, and leadership guidance. · Formal 30-, 60-, and 90-day development checkpoints will provide feedback and ensure readiness for the transition to DNS.
