The Specialty RN provides education and care for patients and their families. Serves as a team member in assessing needs, planning and providing education, and coordinating follow-up care for patients receiving specialized nursing services. This union role is full-time, 40 hours weekly; 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. with Saturday rotations (about every 6th Saturday or so depending on staffing). A minimum of 2 years RN experience is required. Previous Cancer experience is strongly preferred. Serves as a resource person for patient and family regarding the perception of the diagnosis and medical plan of care for the management of disease as designated by the physician. Maintains availability to nursing for occasional in-service and helps with orientation of staff involved education. Performs pre-visit data gathering and record keeping on new and return patients. This includes recording of current medications and dosages and obtaining previous laboratory results and measurements. Assists in the management of patients with chronic diseases, including achieving key quality indicators, education, and long- term coordination of care. Tracks performance improvement measures and assists providers with completion. Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provides basic medical data base for provider, and prepares patient for examinations. Assists provider in performance of procedures as directed by provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency. Assists with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and provider. Executes and documents ongoing patient communication. Provides instruction to ensure patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions. Inserts, monitors, regulates and discontinues IVs as required by provider. Performs and assists with triaging telephone calls concerning health issues and offers appropriate telephone management advice to patients as liaison to physician recommendations. Communicates lab, radiology and other testing results to patients and via telephone and electronic medical record letter notification. 
Performs the duties of a Clinic LPN and serves as a role model in the delivery of quality patient care. Obtains and documents chief complaint, vital signs, and prepares patient for examination. Identifies and addresses physical, social and psychological needs of the patient and family to the registered nurse. Observes, identifies and documents patient condition and care according to the unit standard and reports changes in condition to registered nurse. Reinforces health teaching, collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork. Cleans and sets up exam rooms and treatment room between cases. Administers medication and treatments according to procedure and bills and documents accordingly. Prepares patient for diagnostic studies and surgical procedures and assists providers as necessary. Demonstrates responsibilities and accountability in daily operational issues. Inserts, monitors, regulates and discontinues IV's as required by provider. Responsible for maintaining clean utility room, soiled utility room, exam rooms and nursing station to Department of Health, Joint Commission and Unit standards. Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting, and taking corrective measure in care and handling of equipment. Participates in the evaluation and coordination of daily and weekly staffing; coordinates any changes with management. Total cash compensation includes earnings from per visit point pay and hourly pay and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role. This role receives two types of compensation depending on the work being performed. When conducting visits, you will be paid per visit point rate compensation. Your per visit pay will be calculated by multiplying your per visit point rate by the productivity points you accrue for various types of visits. Each type of visit is assigned a certain number of productivity points that is inclusive of "direct" and "indirect" patient care activities. Visits are assigned based on patient and business needs. The number of visits performed each week will vary based on individual productivity targets and the productivity points assigned to the visits performed. You will be paid your hourly rate for certain non-visit activities such as orientation. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable. Provides patient care as directed by the licensed nurse, within the medica assistant scope of practice, in meeting the multidisciplinary care plan established for each patient Assists provider in setting up for minor procedures, gathering supplies and equipment, applying aseptic dressings, opening supplies, etc. Obtains and accurately documents patient information using the rooming tool within the electronic medical record. Reports patient concerns and questions to appropriate care team member and follows through as directed. Reports all patient safety incidents or issues, patient and family complaints, serious events, environmental hazards immediately to supervisor. May have access to non-controlled medication storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit. Inventories and orders supplies based on appropriate or established inventory levels. Checks for expired items and removes expired supplies from inventory. Assures adequate stock of supplies and equipment in rooms. Cleans equipment and routinely inspects condition and operation of equipment as appropriate to scope of role. Cleans and prepares exam rooms between patients. Performs high level disinfection or sterilization per policy and procedure. Performs duties of Patient Access Representative including responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics. Assures all check-in procedures are competed and monitors patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary. Assists with referrals and pre-certifications, at the time of encounter. Reads and interprets insurance responses. Understands general guidelines and insurance rank requirement to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. Ensures patient receives necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtains necessary legal and financial signatures.. Notifies patient or guarantor of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collects accordingly. Completes patient's visit by scheduling any necessary follow up appointments to include any specialty or ancillary services as possible. Processes multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding: appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
