Overview O.R. Same Day Surgery Per Diem, Monday – Friday Vaired 10 hour shifts 6:00am - 9:30pm (staggard start times) Our Same Day Program is a very busy 34-bed unit where patients are efficiently prepared for their surgery or procedures. A typical day we care for 50-70 patients. We also provide post anesthesia recovery care for those patients being discharged home the “same day” as their procedure. On the main unit we serve patients from 15 years through adulthood and in our separate pedi periop program we care for patients 14 and under. Within our department is a regional block program where patients receive sedation by our moderate sedation trained nurses while being administered a preoperative block before going into the OR for most commonly a joint replacement. Preadmission Services that utilize our program include but are not limited to orthopedics, gynecology, plastics, ENT, vascular, urology, radiology, cardiology and thoracic surgery. We are looking for experienced nurses that are team players and want to work in a busy 34 bed Same Day Surgery Program (SDP). Shifts are 10 hours between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:30 pm. Nurses must have current acute care hospital experience. Critical Care experience and IV skills are a plus. Same Day Program consists of an energetic and enthusiastic group of professionals that are engaged in sharing their knowledge of perioperative services! Responsibilities Practices consistently with applicable state nursing practice regulations, applicable ASC policies and procedures, and the ANA Code of Ethics. Ensures proper equipment is available and ready for surgical cases. Ensures safety measures including time out process, safe patient positioning, required surgical documentation, and surgical count process are appropriately performed. Assists anesthesia and surgeon with needs of the patient. Identifies opportunities for improved OR efficiencies. Overview The Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring preoperative optimization including patient education for those patients undergoing surgical and endoscopic procedures. The nurse works closely with key stakeholders in coordinating the patients’ perioperative needs. Responsibilities Assessment and Review of Records Monitor patient medical records for preoperative testing results and exercise professional nursing judgement to identify and address barriers to optimization for surgical, diagnostic, invasive, noninvasive and other special procedures. Performs accurate and comprehensive review of clinical factors, past medical history and relevant information. Use effective interviewing skills to perform patient health interviews with surgical and endoscopy patient by collecting and analyzing clinical and psychosocial data, identifying problems and health patterns/trends which may directly affect optimization for surgical/endoscopy procedures. Promote and maintain patient safety by assessing clinical and psychological needs in preparation for the day of surgery/procedure. Clinical Knowledge Utilize clinical knowledge to ensure optimization of patients scheduled for surgery prior to their admission date to prevent surgery cancellations and delays. Utilizes clinical knowledge and established perioperative protocols (surgical and anesthetic) to provide patient with individualized preoperative education.
