The Johns Hopkins Hospital Psychiatric Acute Inpatient Unit, Schizophrenia (Meyer 5) is a 19 bed unit specializing in the treatment of schizophrenia psychotic disorders as well as treatment of psychiatric disorders that may include evidence of disruption in behavior, cognition, or mood. This unit features a Schizophrenia Day Hospital that provides ongoing/treatment interventions such as pharmacotherapy, individual and group psychotherapy, and psycho-education groups. Qualifications : BSN/MSN preferred. Must be from an accredited nursing program. Applicants with an Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program may be considered; provided they are enrolled in an accredited BSN/MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete the degree within 5 years of hire. About this Job: Unit Highlights The Maternal Newborn Center provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, and the postpartum period, including a Level II Special Care Nursery, where we provide care to our smallest patients. We utilize approaches such as Spinning Babies® and Bundle Birth to promote safe outcomes and maintain cesarean rates below the national average. Our close-knit team of highly trained nurses—certified in electronic fetal monitoring and STABLE—delivers compassionate, high-quality care in a collaborative environment. We are a smaller unit with 5 labor beds, 2 triage rooms, 1 PACU, and 2 ORs, as well as 10 Postpartum rooms. The Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit is a 14-bed unit providing treatment for patients whose psychiatric symptoms may be the result of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease, neurodegenerative disorders or head traumas. As a Registered Nurse/RN you will: Perform a full range of professional psychiatric nursing services, including assessing, planning, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with team treatment plans. Administer medical treatment as prescribed by physician. Teach and provide psychosocial support to patients and their families. Provide day-to-day clinical direction to assigned Mental Health Workers or other paraprofessional staff. Document and report patient progress to treatment team. Requirements: Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland (or compact state) at time of appointment and continuously while in position. Experience in a psychiatric nursing setting preferred Preferred Geriatric and/or Med-Surg experience (at least 1 year) All new clinical staff will begin their extended clinical orientation/training immediately following your first day of employment.
