What You'll Do Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room environment before, during, and after surgical procedures. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by selecting and passing instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout each procedure. Safely operate, inspect, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and hospital policies. Participate as an integral member of the surgical team by understanding the patient's history, allergies, and intraoperative plan of care. Demonstrate knowledge of medications used within the sterile field, including proper labeling, dosage recognition, and safe handling practices. Maintain the highest standards of aseptic technique and infection prevention to promote patient safety. Complete required documentation accurately and within the Surgical Technologist scope of practice. Demonstrate best practices in sharps safety, specimen handling and labeling, and intraoperative temperature regulation. Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other members of the healthcare team. Maintain competency through ongoing education and adherence to departmental policies and procedures. Qualifications Required Associate degree in Surgical Technology for individuals entering the profession on or after July 1, 2013 , or eligibility under applicable grandfathering provisions for those practicing prior to that date. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or completion of an approved structured training program with an equivalent professional credential. Certification is required for new hires without surgical facility experience prior to July 1, 2013. Strong knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, and operative procedures.
