JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in transportation of patients to and from the surgical services departments. Performs as a first assistant when assigned within scope of practice, competency, and skills. Reviews preference cards and makes proper selection of appropriate supplies and equipment for surgical procedures assigned. Accountable for supplies, equipment, and environmental support in a cost-effective manner. Drapes all equipment in a sterile fashion. Identifies specimens for processing by circulating nurse. Counts instruments, sharps, and sponges, before, during and after surgery. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Removes soiled instruments and equipment appropriately. Recognizes, intervenes, and reports situations which impede patient safety. Safeguards the privacy of patients and maintains confidentially. Maintains stock in Operating Room supply carts as needed. Recognizes and reports problems related to kits, equipment, or supplies. Contributes to cleanliness and order of the unit. Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in assigned room. Ensures patient comfort and safety measures are maintained. Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures with a high degree of efficiency, anticipating physician and patient needs during the case. Assists in daily maintenance of the department, in completing work assignments, restocking, pulling cases for the next day and maintaining equipment in good working order. Utilizes non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner. Orients and trains others on appropriate instruments/equipment use. Follows all appropriate procedures to decontaminate, sterilize, and disinfect equipment and instruments. Correctly assembles and wraps/packages items. Prepares items in an organized and timely manner. Operates the autoclave unit appropriately and performs high level disinfection processes. Performs other duties as required. Remain knowledgeable of industry standards and state regulations, and monitor and review best practices as necessary. Advise the regional and central nursing leadership teams about performance, and opportunities to improve care outcomes, quality, experience, and employee engagement. Work with the clinical and leadership team to implement and execute new clinical services and programs, including addressing gaps and providing feedback on program improvement. Minimum Requirements: Current license to practice as a registered nurse. Bachelor degree in nursing strongly preferred; Advanced degree preferred. US Work Authorization. Essential Duties Assesses community needs in relation to tuberculosis services. Assume responsibility for professional self-growth and continued development in nursing, TB disease case management, and epidemiology. Case manages individuals diagnosed with or suspected of having TB or latent TB infection. Provides care coordination, case management, referral, and follow-up care to individuals and families who are members of a vulnerable population and/or high-risk groups. Collaborates with MCPHD departments, resettlement agencies, Indiana State Department of health (ISDH), and other community agencies to provide necessary services. Performs appropriate diagnostic procedures, treatment regimens, and administers injections, administers vaccinations, and medications according to physician orders and/or MCPHD protocols and policies. Adheres to applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, such as exposure to blood borne pathogens, toxic substances, airborne pathogens, or exposure to other hazards during routine assignments or assignments during public health emergencies. Collect demographic information, health history, and extent of illness or infectiousness, and patient’s knowledge and beliefs regarding TB. Provides home visits to conduct a comprehensive home assessment, symptom screen, and directly-observed therapy. Provides support and education to TB clients and contacts. Maintains working files of reported cases, suspects and individuals with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Monitor treatment regimen, including ongoing assessment, response to treatment, HIV status, positive and negative motivational factors influencing adherence and any unmet educational needs of the patient. Ensure contact investigation is completed, and provide education about TB infection and disease. Communicate current communicable disease status through monthly report summaries. Evaluate outcomes of direct patient care, educational programs, and research. Referral of clients needing medical evaluation and/or treatment for LTBI or active TB to primary care provider or TARC clinic. Facilitates TARC and Refugee Clinics as needed. Participate in community meetings, health forums, and board meetings to review community services available, and share services available through MCPHD TB Program. Midwest Specialty Surgery Center is a free-standing orthopedic outpatient surgery center located on the southwest side of Indianapolis. Midwest specializes in total joint replacement of the hip, knee, and shoulder as well as general orthopedic surgery. We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team that would work with patients after orthopedic surgery prior to discharge. The ideal candidate for this position will be a highly motivated, fast-learning professional who is able to multi-task effectively and maintain a good attitude and patience. _ A typical day would include caring for 3-4 post-op patients per shift. Primary duties would be education for patient and family prior to discharge as well as assessing that patient is safe to discharge home. You will not take call. You will not work weekends or holidays. Hours may vary from time to time, based on patient needs for the day. Typically, hours are 8-6:30pm. At times shifts may run later depending on when patients are ready to discharge. Job Type: PRN Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing. Active RN license in the state.
