Essential Duties: Assesses patients and assesses normal and abnormal findings obtained from history and physical examination as well as radiology and ancillary studies. Orders radiologic and laboratory tests and studies as necessary to complete history and physical examinations. Provides direct patient treatment, including but not limited to: administering nerve and hematoma blocks, reduction of fractures and dislocations, applying and removing casts and splints, joint aspirations and injections, applying and or removing traction, wound care, changing dressing and vac dressing, removing sutures and staples, cauterizations and inserting drains. Serves as first assistant in the operating room. Plans and implements care of doctor’s patients, including; entering orders into the patient record that are verbal orders or part of standing orders or protocols approved by the supervising Physician. Provides patient and family instruction on the proper use and care of braces, splints, and other DME products. Helps to counsel individuals and families about their health-related issues. Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs. Attends and performs rounds to assist Physician when possible. Participates in annual and ongoing training, education and development activities to improve knowledge and skills. Requires knowledge of equipment and supplies.
