MEDICAL ASSISTANT Job Summary There are four basic categories of medical assistant duties—clerical, administrative, clinical, and specialist. Essential Functions Clinical Medical Assistant Duties Clinical Medical Assistant job duties involve working with patients in a clinical context, assisting physicians during procedures, and performing light medical procedures. Medical assistants are always required to be supervised by a physician. They are similar to administrative assistants in typical office settings, managing the day-to-day office activities that keep an office running smoothly. Some clerical medical assistant duties might include:  Answering phones  Greeting patients  Sorting mail  Handling correspondence  Filing  Creating documents  Performing computer data entry 3 Specialist Medical Assistant Duties The job duties of a specialist medical assistant are somewhat different from those of general medical assistants. A specialist medical assistant has in-depth knowledge of a particular medical field, and has job responsibilities that reflect their specialization.
