The Nurse Supervisor provides support and care to the clients and maintains professional standards of care, following the ANA Code of Ethics. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible for immediate supervision of a wide variety of clinic and infusion functions at the Hillcrest campus, planning and performing direct and indirect nursing interventions, and is responsible for supervising, organizing, planning, assessing and monitoring the medical services provided by UC San Diego Health. The Nurse Supervisor works in conjunction with physicians, nursing leadership, nurses, and other healthcare providers to assure that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, and psychosocial care possible. The Nurse Supervisor assists in administrative efficiencies through the medical service areas and has frequent independent judgment in monitoring the day-to-day operation of the units with minimal administrative assistance/supervision. While work hours and location may vary due to business needs, the RN Nurse Supervisor can expect a 4/10 work schedule. (Four 10-hour days, with three days off each week.) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience. Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit. Current ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card or must obtain within six (6) months of hire. Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions. Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies. Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals. Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments. Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services. Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related area. ACLS and/or UCSD ART certification. OCN. Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience. Experience supervising in a large clinic and/or infusion environment. SPECIAL CONDITIONS This is a 363/365 days a year, and 7 days onsite coverage a week operation. Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Consults with Charge RN and Medical Director to optimize clinical staffing. • Provides informal feedback to staff on an ongoing basis and formal feedback in the form of the annual performance evaluation during the focal merit review process. Obtains feedback and input regarding the staff performance from the Medical Director and Charge RN and acts on the feedback as appropriate. Collaborates with staff and Charge RN and Medical Director to set annual goals for staff. • Manages the department staffing through the appropriate hiring, firing and disciplinary actions. • Maintains written documentation of all disciplinary meetings in accordance with the established personnel policies and confers with Human Resources and Director of Operations regarding the nature of the disciplinary decisions. • Ensures successful execution of new hire orientation and training, and ICD-9 code training when ICD-10 applicable for new hires and works with Medical Director to ensure mandatory in-services are completed. • Ensures appropriate documentation is completed for current licensure, annual in-service and policy and procedure in-service updates. • Responsible for ensuring all facility employees receive appropriate training according to company policy including company risk management initiatives. • Provides training and guidance to facility staff members to ensure development of clinical competences, providing opportunities for professional growth and encouraging personal growth. • Collaborates with HR regarding providing information to staff pertaining to FMS/FMCNA benefits, Human Resources policies and procedures. • Participates in Corporate and Division specific employee recognition and satisfaction programs. • Maintains a close working relationship with Division and Corporate office personnel and ensures appropriate communication of FMS, Division, and Corporate initiatives, policies and procedures to facility staff. • Utilizes knowledge of FMCNA and FMS services and products to contribute to the growth of the business. • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety. • Schedules the maintenance and repair of equipment, operating systems, and physical structure of the facility, as needed. • Monitors the security of the facility. • Coordinates inventory/supply management by reviewing monthly inventory count and approving purchase orders for necessary items to ensure cost containment, timely distribution and competitive pricing. • Responsible for efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals following all guidelines established in the FMS/FMS formularies. • Contributes to the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facility and the pertinent updating and maintenance of the related manuals. • Directs any necessary information gathering, as required, to support billing, billing issues and collection activities. • Coordinates and approves facility payroll. • Responsible for participating in all on-site internal and external (state and federal) surveys. • Reviews new and existing provider contracts for various vendor services, including but not limited to, insurance, laboratory, and facility cleaning. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
