Registered Nurse - NICU (0.9 FTE, Day/ Night rotating shift) Relocation assistance available. No pediatrics experience? No problem! If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for. Day/ Night rotating shift will be 6 weeks Days, 6 weeks Nights. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 32-bed quaternary care unit and the only Level IV NICU in Washington that receives referrals from four states: Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI). Patients in the NICU are neonates up to 50 weeks post-gestational age. It is unique from a traditional NICU as many of the patients have congenital diagnoses requiring specialized pre-operative surgical and postoperative surgical care. Critically ill neonates with complex medical issues are also cared for in this unit. Specialized care provided includes ECMO/ECLS, cooling, in-room surgical procedures, high frequency oscillatory ventilation, use of inhaled nitric oxide, etc. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e., Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, Workforce Inclusion Diversity Equity and Access (IDEA) etc. Required Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Prior experience in a pediatric related health care setting, or a specific area of nursing, may be required for specific departments. Required Credentials Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions at time of hire unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area (refer to requirements per practice area below.) BLS must be maintained in current status until the incumbent obtains the appropriate Life Support Life Support Education required for their practice area (refer to requirements per practice area below) NOTE: Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position. Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 3 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit As per the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for nurses performing moderately complex point of care testing, a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire. For personnel trained outside of the U.S., records of diploma/transcript must provide documented equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency. Registered Nurse - NICU (0.9 FTE, night shift) *Up to $15,000 sign on bonus + $8000 Relocation for qualified external, experienced Pediatric / Neonatal ICU nurses* No pediatrics experience? The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 48-bed quaternary care unit and the only Level IV NICU in Washington that receives referrals from four states: Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI). Patients in the NICU are neonates up to 50 weeks post-gestational age. It is unique from a traditional NICU as many of the patients have congenital diagnoses requiring specialized pre-operative surgical and postoperative surgical care. Critically ill neonates with complex medical issues are also cared for in this unit. Specialized care provided includes ECMO/ECLS, cooling, in-room surgical procedures, high frequency oscillatory ventilation, use of inhaled nitric oxide, etc. The NICU charge nurse responds to all Code Blue events in the hospital. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Responsibilities The Nursing Process Assessment - Demonstrates the nursing skills to complete a holistic assessment of the patient’s physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and education needs utilizing The Christ Hospital Professional Practice Model. Understands signs and symptoms and data related to the patient’s presenting needs and actual or potential nursing diagnosis. Recognizes and appropriately reports to the physician and charge RN pertinent abnormal data and changes in the patient’s condition. Utilizes appropriate handoff methods to collaborate with other healthcare team members to communicate pertinent data regarding patient’s physiological and psychological data. Initiates discharge planning upon admission, makes appropriate referrals consistent with the anticipated length of stay. Implementation – The method of providing evidence based, quality care is based on assessed needs and standards of care while adhering to hospital policy and procedures to achieve set goals. Performs and delegates nursing actions based on appropriate orders demonstrates critical thinking and accountability for appropriate implementation. Provides ongoing, individualized holistic patient and family education based on needs and plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates critical thinking upon review of physician orders, making appropriate referrals, & contacts other health team professionals. Responds to emergency situations that require an immediate, controlled precision in a skillful manner. Implements measures to prevent contamination and/or transmission of disease to include the use of appropriate protective devices and equipment to prevent injury and maintain a safe environment. Evaluation – Continuously evaluates nursing practice related to the plan of care in relation to the standards of care established through evidence-based literature and standards established by professional organization that have been built into order sets in the electronic medical record, the individual plan of care, and patient outcomes and goals. Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care interventions, adjusts or continues with plan of care based on patient and family response. Maintains continuity of care by continuous evaluation during ”handoff” report, rounding, and upon transfers to other specialty units and post care facilities. Documentation Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented in the patient’s electronic medical record reflecting the plan of care as implemented by the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team. Documents information in a timely manner, according to hospital policy, to include the plan of care, accurate updates, teaching and the patients’ and family response to care. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN.
