POSITION SUMMARY: A licensed and credentialed Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up under the direction of 1 or more physicians in the clinic. The NP performs age and specialty appropriate physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. As an expert professional, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. Responsibilities including management and peri-procedural care of outpatient cardiac catheterization patients, as well as primary role as Valve Program Coordinator, which includes coordination of Cardiac Valve Clinic (in concert with CT surgery), navigating patients through valve / structural heart workups, and administrative duties involving structural heart registry, follow-up. Under general supervision of a cardiologist, the nurse practitioner would be responsible for providing relevant medical services which may include obtaining complete medical history and performing physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; counseling patients and families, and other patient care duties.
