Responsibilities The Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (1.0 FTE) provides care for oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient setting. This individual will be a member of the GI consult service that sees all Fred Hutch patients at the Sloan SLU outpatient ambulatory facility. They will work with the GI physicians and GI clinic nurse. Primary responsibilities include initial evaluation, physical examinations, development of a treatment plan, progress notes, and ongoing follow up of patients on whom a GI consult has been requested, either in person or by telemedicine. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Perform initial consultations for GI referrals for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional and uninvestigated dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation, chronic diarrhea, peptic ulcer disease, uncomplicated hemorrhoids, anal fissures, colorectal cancer screening, MASLD with FIB-4 < 1.3, mildly elevated transaminases, and chronic hepatitis B. Responsibilities The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides care for blood and marrow transplant patients and immunotherapy patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings under the supervision of the attending physician. The APP is responsible for the primary care of the patient to include assessment, triage and management of the transplant patient as part of a collaborative transplant team. Responsibilities include obtain medical history, perform physical examinations, review and order diagnostic studies, radiographs and prescribe treatments. APPs perform bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures and are first assists with Bone Marrow Harvests and provide follow-up care of bone marrow donors under the supervision of attending physician. Qualifications Required: Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program or appropriate Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed). Have National Certification as appropriate for profession Must be licensed for schedule II drug authority upon credentialing. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Basic computer skills are essential. Must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Must enjoy long-term relationships with patients undergoing intense therapy. Preferred: Oncology or BMT experience preferred.
