Overview The Department of Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team. Position assists physicians, APPs, and nursing staff with patient care to include patient triage, referral orders, retrieve imaging and lab results, process work tasks, messages in the EHR and patient portal, assists other clinical staff with daily clinical and administrative tasks, and stock/prepare exam rooms. Also prepares patients for provider visits and assisting providers with procedures. Responsibilities Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, following standing triage orders, reconcile medication list, reconcile allergies, make sure immunizations are up to date and prepare patient for the visit. Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Provide basic patient care and education as directed by provider and standing orders. Completes delegated tasks from the current and prior day i.e.: patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agency requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed, and marked appropriately before the close of each business day. Coordinates services with specialists i.e.: radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, or social services consultation. Documents all correspondence and interventions in the electronic health record. Assists supervisors in the training of new staff members. Maintains current inventory of medical and office supplies Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains used instrumentation per department protocol. Medical Assistants are required to fill in for other clinical staff during vacations and illness and perform other duties as assigned by providers, or supervisors at both sites. The successful candidate in this role shall respond to questions from patients, family members, faculty/residents, other health care providers in a timely and professional manner. Patient inquiries should be answered on the same day they are received, before leaving for the day. If patient is not home at the first attempt, a notation should be made in the medical record. Overview This is a full time position for a medical assistant, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. RN, Certified Diabetes Educator

Overview The Diabetes Nurse Educator is a member of the EVMS Diabetes in Pregnancy Program and partners with Maternal-Fetal Medicine providers and the multidisciplinary care team to deliver specialized diabetes education and management for individuals before, during, and after pregnancy. The position focuses on promoting optimal glycemic control through individualized patient dietary education, insulin management, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, and evidence-based clinical care. The Diabetes Nurse Educator reviews glucose data, collaborates with providers to support treatment decisions, and serves as a resource for patients and staff on current diabetes technologies and best practices. This role requires excellent communication, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care that supports improved maternal and neonatal outcomes. This position is primarily based out of the Virginia Beach office but will require travel to all office locations as needed. Responsibilities Clinic- 70% Call patients from reception area. Obtain and record vital signs such as height, weight, temperature and blood pressure. May be required to draw blood and give injections. May be required to perform a urine dipstick test. Will be required to download and interpret data from Continuous Glucose Sensors and Inulin Pumps under direct supervision. Record all pertinent patient information in Electronic Medical Record (EMR). When necessary, will chaperone physician in examining room as needed; assist with minor surgical and diagnostic procedures. Perform an individualized assessment of the patient with diabetes (patients planning for pregnancy or pregnant with pre-existing diabetes as well as patients diagnosed during pregnancy with Gestational Diabetes). Provide diabetes education in the group setting (up to 5 patients) or as well as one-on-one (in-person and via telehealth) as clinically indicated. Diabetes education will include dietary teaching, use of glucose monitors, acceptable blood glucose levels for pregnancy, use of blood sugar/diet log, management of hypoglycemia and instructions on when to call the diabetes educator and/or physician. Review with MD adjustments made in dosages of oral medication and split dose insulin to optimize glycemic control. Assist MD in identification of appropriate Incumbents for insulin pump therapy and may participate in insulin pump initiation and management under direct supervision of MD. Obtains patient histories and reviews incoming visit history/notes provided by referring physicians. Correlate the patient’s clinical history and appropriate nursing actions for referral. Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient regarding treatment prescribed by the physician as necessary. Assists with providing education to the patient in the process of starting insulin. Incumbent will participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary comprehensive team approach to the care of the pregnant patient with diabetes. Provide education and act as a resource to other staff members regarding the care of patients with diabetes. Overview Full time position for an advanced medical assistant, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. Updating patient prenatal lab forms for all follow up patients. Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. Chaperone when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears. Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Overview The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the team. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for overseeing and assisting with the day-to-day patient care including but not limited to taking vitals, administering meds/treatments, assisting physicians, doing wound care, patient education, documentation, coordinating care, focusing on comfort and supporting quality initiatives, in a fast-paced office. LPN will also assist with training new staff and a point of contact for medical assistants. Responsibilities Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, following standing triage orders, reconcile medication list, reconcile allergies, make sure immunizations are up to date and prepare patients for the visit. Completes delegated tasks from the current and prior day i.e. patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed, and marked appropriately before the closure of each business day. Performing point-of-care testing and collection of lab specimens for further processing. Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Provide basic patient care and education as directed by provider and standing orders. Maintaining cleanliness in treatment areas and ensuring exam rooms are fully stocked with necessary medical instruments and supplies. Ensure stocked items are not expired. Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains used instrumentation per department protocol. Assists supervisors in the training of new staff members. LPN's are required to fill in for other clinical staff during vacations and illness and perform other duties as assigned by providers, or supervisors at both sites. (Ghent and Portsmouth Family Medicine.) The successful candidate in this role shall respond to questions from patients, family members, faculty/residents, other health care providers in a timely and professional manner. Patient inquiries should be answered on the same day they are received, before leaving for the day. If patient is not home at the first attempt, a notation should be made in the medical record. All patient conversations must be documented in the electronic medical record. Follow EVMS Medical Group protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy. Maintain current CPR certification and LPN licensure.
