Several disciplines collaborate to provide prescribed oncology care including chemotherapy and biotherapy. The unit is also designated as the overflow for Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The nursing team is dedicated to care for patients who need aggressive symptom management. They work closely with a multi-disciplinary palliative care team, implementing a holistic approach to physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual well-being. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
