The Perioperative Registered Nurse is part of an excellent team that encompasses all three phases of surgery (the pre-, intra- and post- operative stages) and provides, manages, teaches, and studies the care of patients undergoing surgery or other procedures. Essential Duties: Establishes an environment of safety for the surgical patient. Assesses, diagnoses, implements, and evaluates treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability for the surgical patient. Demonstrates knowledge regarding the psychologic, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other procedure, including participation of patients in their recovery. Supports patient rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system. Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, patient safety, and ethical considerations. Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely Gather and ensure that proper supplies and equipment are available in the OR and for the operation Assists and passes medical instrument or other objects to surgeon as needed during operation Obtains concurrent vital signs to detect deviations from expected normal values and assesses condition Supports patient rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system Consistently communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient to assure they understand all procedures and feel as comfortable as possible Maintains consistent and accurate patient care documentation. Education and Experience: Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing Active State of Maine Nursing license or eligible for licensure Knowledge of nursing in an ambulatory surgery center setting with emphasis on surgical risk factors, patient pre-intra-and post-operative learning needs preferred. Orthopedic nursing experience helpful Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required; PALS certification required within 6 months and no later than one year from date of hire.
