Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care or interventions based on assessments/reassessments. While on transport, develops and initiates a plan of care incorporating current and potential problems requiring intervention, expected response and the medical plan of care in collaboration with the medical control physician. Communicates the plan to the receiving nurse prior to arrival at Children’s Hospital or receiving facility. Implements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs. Incorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and in analyzing patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments. Demonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age specific needs. During the transport process, prioritizes and organizes care based on patient acuity, time limitations and consultation with medical control physician. Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergent situation. Documentation reflects accurate assessment/evaluation, modification, and patients’ response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures. Entries into the electronic medical record follow transport documentation policy. Documentation is completed within established timeframes. Demonstrates responsiveness to the organizational functions of the transport process. Response times are within targeted benchmarks set by the program. Complies with ambulance, helicopter, and fixed wing operational safety in accordance with current guidelines. Checks, cleans, and stocks transport bags and equipment. Ensures equipment is in good working order. Maintains all transport equipment in a state of mission readiness by checking all equipment at the beginning of each shift, noting any discrepancies, and ensuring steps toward resolution. Cleans equipment and restocks bags after a transport. Demonstrates knowledge of transport equipment location, function, and restocking procedures. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot all equipment and ensures that all malfunctions are promptly reported. Completes daily, weekly, monthly, and ongoing equipment checklists. Completes quarterly competencies, monthly education, aircrew training, and other educational and professional development requirements when assigned.
