Description Opportunities for New Graduate Nurses - New to Preop/PACU Training Program - Medical Center - Anticipated start February 2027. This opportunity is for new graduate nurses who have graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months, having less than 6 months of experience, or anticipate graduating from nursing school in December 2025. It is expected that applicants will have a nursing (RN) license that allows them to practice in the state of North Carolina prior to the first day of employment. The New to Preop/PACU (NPP) is partnered with the New Graduate Residency Program (NRP) which is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The NPP program is a 12-week curriculum utilizing ASPAN’s Mosby Modules, didactic classroom instruction, simulation lab practice, and hands on clinical preceptorship. In addition to the daily schedule, expectations will include completion of all modules, homework, evaluations, and achieving a passing score on the final exam. This will pair with the requirements for the NRP. Each nurse will spend time on the main campus or other UNC sites for class and simulations and will participate in clinical at their hired unit. Orientation schedules are subject to adjustment based departmental needs. The UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a free-standing surgical facility with 8 operating rooms and 3 cystoscopy procedure rooms. Our department includes 9 PreOp bays, 10 PACU bays, 6 Short Stay Unit (SSU) rooms for patients requiring stays of up to 23 hours, and 9 dedicated cystoscopy pre/post-procedure bays. The ASC supports a diverse range of surgical specialties, including orthopedics (sports), ENT, plastic surgery, general surgery, surgical oncology, and urology. We care for both pediatric and adult patients, with our pediatric population beginning at 6 months of age. Our team currently cares for approximately 32 patients per day, with volumes growing to approximately 40–48 patients daily following the addition of cystoscopy services. PACU nurses can typically expect to care for approximately 4–6 patients per shift, depending on patient acuity, surgical volume, and workflow. Description The Surgery Observation unit, in the new state-of-the-art North Carolina Surgical hospital, is a 15-bed unit , which provides care to a varied adult surgical population to include patients on observation status, extended recovery from PACU, and at times, those awaiting an inpatient bed assignment.
