Responsibilities The Clinical Nursing Supervisor supports administrative responsibility for the department service functions and works collaboratively with the unit Director and/or Manager. In the absence of the unit Director and/or Manager, the Clinical Supervisor may assume the administrative scope of the unit assigned. Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current federal and/or state regulations. The Clinical Supervisor prepares, conducts and/or oversees department(s) orientation and training of personnel. Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally. The Clinical Supervisor is responsibility and accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift. Assists the Department Director in the daily operations of the unit, directing, supervising, and evaluating personnel, ensuring the proper use of time, equipment and staff. Ensure the efficient functions of the department. Performs direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope of practice. Continually assess care and direct staff to make immediate changes in the plan of care. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING Current and valid California Registered Nurse license Current BCLS (ARC or AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. Current ACLS (ARC or AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. Basic Arrythmia Interpretation certificate within 30 days from date of hire. Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certificate is required within 90 days from date of hire and maintain current. Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred. Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Training on Violence in the Workplace prevention within 90 days from date of hire. This includes, but is not limited to, training new employees; evaluating performance and preparing written performance appraisals; listening to complaints and effectively resolving disputes or problems; taking corrective or disciplinary action; developing work schedules for subordinates; and approving leave requests. Provide direct patient care as indicated within scope of licensure; apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. Provide for adequate staffing at the facility; fill in as needed during periods of short staffing; may perform nursing duties including, but not limited to, executing physician’s orders, assisting physicians in examinations or treatment, dispensing and administering medications, treating emergencies and screening patients for referrals, and performing intakes. Perform triage and physical assessments. Perform and direct emergency care and procedures as needed and call the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited college or university nursing program with a diploma/degree in nursing. Must possess current licensure in the state of employment. Two years nursing experience required. One year's supervisory experience preferred. A valid driver's license is required. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess a strong knowledge base of clinical nursing and basic principle/practices of management. Prisma Health Richland Hospital 7 East Surgical Trauma Unit A regional academic medical center and hospital with more than 125 years of service to Columbia, Prisma Health Richland Hospital provides a wide range of primary and specialty healthcare services. Our Trauma Center is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midlands. A 30-bed medical surgical unit primarily geared towards adult patients requiring care after experiencing traumatic injury typically requiring surgical intervention. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 flexing up to 1:5 as needed. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring for up to 7 patients. Our patients are hemodynamically stable. Examples of these patients include those with injuries related to gunshot wounds or other penetrating injury, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls. Four rooms are equipped to be used as "Safety Suites." These four rooms are for the care of the traumatic brain injury patient and are semi-private and closely monitored. Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a supervisor job which may have direct supervision of team members which may include hire/termination authority, disciplinary authority, and performance management responsibilities. May have budget input or responsibilities. Job is not considered a member of management staff.
