Patients with serious but less critical injuries can be admitted to the TSDU directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with trauma tic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Patients may also be transferred to the TSDU from the Trauma /Surgical ICU when their clinical condition has improved but close monitoring or ventilator support is still required . The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Work Shift: Evenings/Nights (United States of America) Primary Function/General Purpose of Position To provide nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. Insures compliance with regulatory requirements, core measures, patient safety and quality initiatives to achieve optimal clinical and organizational outcomes. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. ACLS required for positions in the Pain Management Clinic. For RN positions in the Emergency Department (ED), ACLS required at time of hire or within sixty days of employment. All WIC service RN’s will be required to attain NRP certification within 6 months of hire and must keep this certification current. Education Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing. BSN required within five (5) years of hire date. Current RN Teammates transferring to another RN position in the same Service Line/Specialty will not be required to complete BSN within five (5) years of transfer date. Effective July 1, 2022, current RN Teammates transferring to another RN position in a different Service Line/Specialty will be required to complete BSN within five (5) years of transfer date.
