The primary purpose of your position is for managing the staffing needs and providing supervision for nursing staff providing direct resident care to ensure quality resident care on the assigned unit. This position assists in staff development. Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care Facility. Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this Facility. Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedure Manual. May be expected to supervise nursing staff while abiding by scope of practice per position. Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required. Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the residents' total regimens of care are maintained. Participate in Facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as may be requested. Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the residents' discharge plans as required. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports, as necessary. Monitor assigned personnel to ensure established safety regulations are followed in the use of equipment and supplies. Ensure that established departmental policies and procedures are followed by self and assigned personnel. Ensure work area, unit, resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc. are maintained in a confidential, safe, and sanitary manner. Job Summary and Qualifications POSITION SUMMARY: The RN demonstrates independence in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, clinical and administrative policies. Float pool staff are expected to staff any unit within their area and meet core competencies for their designated area. Float pool staff will be scheduled through the facility scheduler in accordance with our scheduling policies . Float staff are required to attend and/or complete mandatory in-services, annual competencies, Health Stream education courses and any other requirements as deemed necessary. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in planning for the care of the patient. 2. Assesses plans and evaluates patient care needs. 3. Carries out physician orders. 4. Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, and monitors vital signs. 5. Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care. 6. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. 7. Instructs and educates patients and families. 8. Assesses and coordinates patients transfer planning needs with members of the healthcare team. 9. Provides age and culturally appropriate care. 10. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required’ 11. Performs all other duties as assigned.
