Unit Description Surgical Telemetry is a 30-bed monitored unit caring for a diverse adult patient population. Patients on Surgical Telemetry have health issues requiring surgical interventions, but there is also a subset of medical diagnoses. Diagnoses include, but are not limited to, the treatment for traumatic injuries, cancers in need of surgical intervention, GI bleeds requiring surgical intervention, general and minimally invasive surgical procedures, as well as surgical management for bowel obstructions. We also care for a subset of medical diagnoses including sepsis, cardiac arrhythmias, GI bleeds, renal failure and diabetic emergencies. Strong collaboration and teamwork between physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, therapy, case management and social work is encouraged to optimize patient care. Performs peer to peer review and obtains insurance prior authorization as needed. Processes requests for prescription refills according to established practice. Assists in preparing forms and managing prior authorizations throughout the shift, completing incoming work by the end of the shift. Explains treatment procedures to patients. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Reports patient’s concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to the physician. Assists physicians with procedure set-ups, patient procedures, and examinations. Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol. Administers ordered medications, allergy injections, vaccines and other therapeutic injections in a safe, accurate, professional, and timely manner following policies and procedures. Performs routine screenings, places orders and tracks data for patients according to standardized quality measures in a timely, accurate and efficient manner according to policies and procedure. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education : Degree in Nursing from an accredited College or University required. Experience : A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible and related work experience preferred.
