Performs detailed physical assessment, establishes a plan of care and performs advanced critical care stabilization for patients being transported following designated protocols and procedures as approved by the Program’s Medical Control Physicians and SC DPH Division of EMS. Exhibits effective and intentional communication, ensuring professional bedside interactions with patients and families, referring physicians, outlying facilities, and EMS support personnel. Provides maintenance and follow-up for equipment and supply needs to ensure system readiness. Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. Collects data to assist in regulatory compliance, quality improvement and patient satisfaction issues. Initiates various specialty skills to include, but not limited to endotracheal intubation, blood gas sampling from capillary, venous, and arterial sites, umbilical venous insertion, and needle decompression. Ability to perform duties on all transport modalities including rotor-wing, fixed-wing, or ground ambulance. Provides a complete and accurate report to Medical Control. Makes recommendations to medical directors during transport as appropriate. Accurately and completely documents patient care via electronic software. Demonstrates responsible stewardship of organizational resources, including supplies, time, and productivity, and performing other duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
