Position Summary The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Additional Information: A 36 bed fast paced unit serving patient with solid tumor cancers that are admitted with carious medical complications. Some of the most common cancer diagnoses on the unit are breast, lung, and GI cancers, but a myriad of cancer diagnosis are common. The patients typically have had a complicated medical history and cancer journey. Many of the patients have undergone multiple treatment modalities. Due to the diversity of cancer and medical diagnoses as well as the range of treatment modalities seen, the nurses on this unit gain a varied and extensive set of skills. Nurses on this unit must be able to gain and maintain a high level of clinical knowledge in order to care for this patient population. This unit demonstrates Relationship Based Care in that the staff and management team highly value the care of the patient, care of self, and care of colleagues. The nurse functions as a part of a multidisciplinary team including RNs, PCAs, Physicians, PAs/NPS, Social Workers, and Patient Care Resource Managers. The team also receives additional support from a Staff Educator, a Staff Development Coordinator, and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
