Department: 39011 Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Hematology/Oncology Clinic: Greensboro Medical Plaza Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hou rs Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Oncology Experience Preferred Pay Range: $22.90 - $34.35 Major Responsibilities: Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.). Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered. Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order. Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration. Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation. Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked. May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates. May serve as a role champion or on a committee. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Minimum Job Requirements Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case- by -case basis. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. EDUCATION: TCH does hire AD and Diploma nurses; however all nurses hired after January 2010 must receive their BSN within 5 years of the date of hire. RN’s who were employed at TCH prior to January 2010, and have more than 20 years of experience as an RN are permitted to pursue their BSN on a voluntary basis. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The RN demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide age and culturally specific patient care and education. The RN effectively communicates with peers, utilizes appropriate channels of communication and maintains absolute confidentiality. The RN maintains competence and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth. The RN demonstrates the ability to accept and implement change and the ability to work in a culturally diverse setting. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: The RN holds a current licensure to practice nursing in Ohio. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. BLS certification is required prior to patient contact. ACLS is required within 6 months of hire in step-down and ICU areas. Certification in area of clinical specialty is expected within five years of eligibility.
