Description Using the Synergy Model, the Sr Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS): Supports, supervises, and evaluates staff new to a clinical setting during their first 90 to 180 days (18 months at PAMC) on the unit. We care for children from birth to 21 years of age. Patients treated here are experiencing multi-organ system failure, acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, meningitis, septic shock, near drowning, diabetic ketoacidosis, renal and/or hepatic failure, oncology/bone marrow transplant or airway management, among other needs. Major diagnostic categories include respiratory, neurologic, injury/poisoning, trauma, oncologic and infectious disease. The PICU also provides care for patients receiving solid organ transplant as well as neurosurgical, burn, orthopedic, ENT and general pediatric surgical patients. Patients in the PICU are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including pediatric intensivists, RNs and dedicated PICU respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers and child life specialists.
