Follows established protocols for patients at high risk for falls and skin breakdown. Follows appropriate Code Blue notification procedures. Functions in a Code Blue quickly and calmly providing CPR, administering and documenting medications/interventions accurately. Effectively prioritizes clinical interventions and care. Communicates significant changes in patient’s condition/status in a timely manner. Understands actions, side-effects, contra-indications of drugs. Follows five “rights” of medication administration. Adheres to medication policies, practices and standards. Administers medication, intravenous therapy and fluid management only on physician request and guidance. Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use. Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use. Differentiates between patient complications and equipment malfunction. Uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s operating instructions, including but not limited to: IV Pump Glucoscan PCA Pump Tube Feeding Pump Chest Tube Suction Defibrillator Other duties as assigned. Consistently includes patient and family in the development of an individualized plan of care. Performs initial and weekly assessment of each patient undergoing radiation therapy. Responsible for patient education related to treatment modality, side effects, plan of treatment and symptom management. Communicates prescribed nursing interventions to the healthcare team. Collaborates with Case Management, Social Worker and Dietician to optimize multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Keeps a record of ancillary services referred. Assists in the development of standards of care. Provides for the protection of self and others by adhering to the unit based safe work practices regarding protective equipment by using proper sharps disposal technique: exercising care and caution working with and around sharps and following manufacturer's safety precautions. Works collaboratively with the Infection Control and Occupational Health Department. Participates in tumor board, multidisciplinary, and P.I. functions as needed. Administers medications as needed following CSHS policies and manufacturer's instructions. Takes immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence. Recognizes changes in patient condition and/or emergencies situations and takes immediate and appropriate actions. Makes decisions that demonstrates knowledge of nursing practice; utilizes sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations. Assures all nursing processes are evidenced based. Qualifications Qualifications for Registered Nurses (RNs) : Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in FL Valid CPR card Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in a healthcare setting, with correctional healthcare experience preferred Position may require he/she to stand or walk for long periods of time while performing duties We know you may have questions before applying.
