May perform duties only after their skills have been validated by the school of Nursing in conjunction with the KH RN preceptor. Students are responsible for taking the Skills Checklist to the school of nursing for completion. Works under the supervision of a KH RN preceptor. SNIs are directly responsible to the RN for performing basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. PLEASE NOTE: even when skills on the checklist have been validated to perform independently, some duties require that a RN be present to perform. Those duties include, but are not limited to, administration of oral or injectable medication, initiation of intravenous therapy, adjusting intravenous rates, intravenous medication administration, and taking orders from physicians.
