Utilizes advanced knowledge of sterile and surgical techniques by practicing aseptic technique. Serves as a resource in the area of clinical expertise to Surgical Technologist I's & II's in order to answer any questions and assist with complex situations. Communicate patient data in an accurate, objective manner to co-workers and management, in order to ensure safe patient care. Participates in multidisciplinary planning care by discussing specific cases with other team members. Assists Specialty Nurse Coordinator with service specific needs. Maintains a positive working relationship with patient's, medical and administrative hospital staff, visiting physicians, visitors, interns and students to ensure personal comfort and safety of patients, and that operating room activities meet the needs of users. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Under the general supervision, the Surgical Tech performs the scrub role and maintains a safe sterile environment which includes preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies; counting sponges, needles, sharps and instruments; and assists the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: Is responsible for performing the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards. Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, which also promotes efficiency. Ability to communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians and ancillary departments. Ability to set priorities. Application of sterile and aseptic techniques Knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures Acts to protect and advance patient’s best interest. Maintains knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications. Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties. Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology preferred. Effectively communicates, both orally and written. AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire.

Then you need to enroll in one of the surgical tech programs that has been accredited by either the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools(ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Certified surgical technologist (CST), offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
