Description Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) provide specialized care for patients with complex medical needs. Our long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) offers advanced, hospital-level treatment for chronically and critically ill patients requiring extended stays. In addition, our Acute Rehabilitation Unit is dedicated to helping patients recover from the effects of acute injuries, impairments, or illnesses. Job Summary Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned area. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, emotional support and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing personnel. Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Position Overview: The Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers advanced, evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients during consistent night shifts at The MetroHealth System’s Level I Adult Trauma Center. Working collaboratively with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, nursing, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the APP provides overnight management of critically ill surgical patients, responds to changes in clinical condition, performs bedside procedures, and supports the ongoing care of patients within the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This position is designed for an APP interested in a dedicated nocturnist role and requires strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, procedural, communication, and decision-making skills. The APP should have a thorough understanding of trauma and surgical critical care, including the assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of acute and critically ill patients. Key Responsibilities Provide overnight management of critically ill patients in the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Collaborate with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, APPs, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Evaluate new and evolving clinical concerns and respond to acute changes in patient condition throughout the night. Collect and interpret clinical data, including laboratory results, imaging, hemodynamic information, and other diagnostic studies, to develop and document assessments and treatment plans. Manage complex postoperative, critically ill, and medically fragile patients across surgical specialties, including trauma, emergency general surgery, transplant, vascular, and general surgery. Perform bedside procedures within the APP's scope of practice and clinical privileges, including central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, chest tube placement and management, and other critical care procedures. Participate in ventilator management, hemodynamic management, resuscitation, and stabilization of critically ill patients. Respond to clinical emergencies and participate in resuscitation of deteriorating or unstable patients. Communicate significant changes in patient condition and escalate clinical concerns appropriately to the Trauma/Critical Care attending physician and surgical team. Provide effective handoff and continuity of care between the overnight and daytime teams. Complete timely, accurate documentation and ensure established care plans are effectively implemented. Collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive overnight critical care. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited master’s degree program for: Physician Assistant (PA) Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or equivalent grandfathered certification. National certification through NCCPA, ANCC, or AACN. Licensure: PA: License through the State Medical Board of Ohio. NP: License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Registered Nurse (RN) through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Eligibility for federal DEA registration. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or obtained within 90 days of hire. Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification obtained within 180 days of hire. Additional advanced life support certifications (as applicable to practice area) obtained within 180 days of hire. Knowledge of sterile techniques and aseptic practices. Meet requirements for clinical privileges in the specialty/department with The MetroHealth System and apply for privileges at the time of hire. Previous experience in surgical critical care, trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, or another high-acuity inpatient setting. Experience independently evaluating and managing acutely deteriorating or critically ill patients. Proficiency in critical care procedures, including central and arterial line placement, chest tube placement and management, and other bedside procedures. Experience with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and management of complex critically ill patients. Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and comfort practicing within a high-acuity overnight environment. Additional Notes Other department-specific qualifications for providers will be addressed through the Certificate of Authority and credentialing process. Work Environment The APP will work at Cleveland’s most experienced Level 1 Trauma Center at MetroHealth’s primary facility in Cleveland. This role requires adaptability, flexibility in scheduling, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality care across diverse clinical settings. This position is specifically designated as a straight nightshift/nocturnist position . These shifts will be 12 hours in length. Weekend and holiday coverage is required as part of the nocturnist scheduling model. JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting physician with patient care, clerical and clinical. Convey a positive image of the clinic. Collect, process routine testing, and returning results back to doctor. Provide good customer service on the phone, patients, doctors and other medical staff. Work well under pressure and prioritize. Perform CLIA waived moderate testing. Patient referrals, pulling charts, filing, cleaning/wrapping instruments, stocking rooms, reconcile labs, rooming patients taking vitals and history. Healthy connection referrals/eligibility, collection calls, prior authorizations, checking patients in/out at the front desk collecting pertinent information. Collecting and processing payments, scanning and discharging, answering phones, posting charges, some coding/billing, medical records, blood draws and giving injections. The LPN provides direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting. He/she communicates with providers/nurse manager/co-workers as appropriate, about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic evaluation and changes in patient condition or symptomatology. This includes: pediatric, geriatric, the general patient population, and EMTALA appropriate medical screening exams. 3. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 4. Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment. 5. Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and performs tests in a timely manner. 6. Is able to interpret results of waived tests accurately, taking appropriate action on waived tests’ results. 7. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. 8. Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. 9. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. 10. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. What you need to know about this position: Our Orthopedics/Neuro unit is a 15-bed inpatient nursing unit with an emphasis on wellness and rehabilitation. The patients on this unit are primarily post-surgical orthopedics, GYN and urological populations as well as patients recovering from strokes. A new Registered Nurse in this unit will have an hourly base rate starting at $33.34. An experienced Registered Nurse can expect an hourly base rate in the top 25% of nurses in the region.
