Position Summary : Adhering to System Values, Service Excellence, and Standards of Behavior, the Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) Apprentice is an employee actively enrolled in an approved nursing assistant training program and participates in classroom instruction, laboratory training, and supervised clinical experiences while working toward New Hampshire LNA certification. Under the direct supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), clinical instructor, or other designated licensed healthcare professional, the LNA Apprentice assists with basic patient care activities appropriate to their level of education, training, demonstrated competency, and program requirements. The LNA Apprentice promotes patient dignity, privacy, safety, and comfort while developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to transition into the Licensed Nursing Assistant role upon successful completion of the training program and attainment of required certification. Essential Qualifications : Education: High School Diploma or GED is Required Enrollment in and active participation in an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program. Must meet all eligibility requirements established by the approved training program. Certification or Licensure: Additional healthcare-related training certifications appropriate to student status. Supports patient nutrition and hydration needs, including meal assistance , feeding support, and monitoring intake as directed by licensed staff. Assists with elimination needs, toileting, continence care, and related patient support activities under appropriate supervision . Obtains and reports vital signs, weights, intake and output, and other patient observations that are within the apprentice's approved level of training and competency. Assists with ambulation, repositioning, transfers, range-of-motion activities, and mobility support according to established safety practices and training requirements. Observes patient conditions during assigned care activities and promptly reports on changes, concerns, abnormal findings, or potential safety risks to the supervising RN, LPN, or clinical instructor. Maintains patient dignity, confidentiality, privacy, and respect while delivering care and interacting with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and comfortable patient environment, including room organization, supply replenishment, and equipment readiness. Communicates assigned-care activities, observations, completion of tasks, and patient concerns to supervising licensed staff in a timely and professional manner. Documents patient care activities and observations only as permitted by organizational policy, training program requirements, and under required supervision or review. Responds appropriately during emergency situations by following the direction of licensed staff and performing only those tasks appropriate for the apprentice role and current training level. Maintains positive working relationships with patients, families, clinical instructors, licensed staff, medical staff, support personnel, and other members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, appropriate appearance , effective time management, compliance with organizational policies, and commitment to ongoing learning while preparing to transition into the Licensed Nursing Assistant role. Performs additional duties as assigned . Job Overview Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our ICU - Cardiovascular Department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. We care for patients who have had coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also handles patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We apply extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and high technical skills. This unit has a low nurse to patient ratio and resource nurses on unit. Schedule: This position will be working 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift. This position will also work every third weekend. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. Responsibilities Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes. Main Function The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The RN is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director. Duties And Responsibilities STANDARDS OF CARE Nursing Process Assessment Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status of patients.** Diagnosis Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses.** Outcome Identification Identifies appropriate expected outcomes individualized to the patient.** Planning Formulates a goal directed plan of care, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.** Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these.** Implementation Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner.** Performs documentation duties on unit and in patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise.** Evaluation Evaluates effectiveness of self, care given by all health care team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.** PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE Quality of Care Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.** Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.** Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision making for designated patient populations.** Follows all Medical Center, Division of Nursing and Unit specific Policy and Procedures.** Consistently incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice.** Performance Appraisal Demonstrates an awareness of self responsibility and accountability for own professional practices.** Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.** Education Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills required by assigned unit.** Participates actively in staff development activities for unit and department of nursing personnel and other departments and personnel as appropriate.** Collegiality Formulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and significant others.** Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts.** Ethics Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant other rights, as identified within the institution.** Decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner. ** Research Remains aware of current nursing research and implements findings in Nursing Practice as applicable.** Resource Utilization Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.** CORE VALUES Accountability Accepts accountability for individual practice.
