CVICU ICU Nurse Full Time RN 7p-7a

Overview The UF Health Cardiac Critical Care Service Line includes a 17-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) and a 24-bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) , united under one leadership team to provide seamless, high-quality care for adult cardiac medicine and cardiac surgery patients from admission through discharge. The CVICU delivers high-acuity critical care, including advanced life-support therapies such as invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical circulatory support (Impella & Intra Aortic Balloon Pump), CRRT, temporary pacing, advanced airway management, and ECMO, while the CCU manages intermediate-level patients from the same population. Patients include those with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, post–cardiac arrest, and those recovering from CABG, valve and structural heart procedures (TAVR), PCI, ablations, and pacemaker placement. Nurses are cross-trained in cardiac surgery and cardiac medicine care and supported by a structured professional development pathway that allows progression from intermediate to advanced open-heart and critical care roles. Care is delivered in all-private rooms with 4:1 CCU and 2:1 CVICU nurse-patient ratios, supported by an engaged charge nurse and a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists, and specialized nursing roles, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and excellent patient outcomes. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Registered Nurse is responsible for rendering professional nursing care and directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Participates in bedside shift report/handoff. Performs hourly rounding. Obtains required patient assessments and reassessments per nursing policy. Revises as needed per hospital policy. Coordinates timely, adequate teaching to patient/family/significant other in preparation for discharge and documents appropriately. Implements and monitors nursing interventions. Consistently documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Meditech within required timeframe. Participates in interdisciplinary rounding and collaborates with team members to identify patient needs. Recognizes changes in patient conditions and communicates with physician using SBAR. Effectively manages patient care and delegates appropriately according to the needs of the patient and the skill of the caregiver. Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members. Facilitates a positive and caring relationship with others by utilizing trust and mutual respect. Establishes a therapeutic relationship between patient, family, and self, based on empathy and trust. Promotes a positive patient experience. Seeks help from appropriate resources as needed. Maintains current knowledge of and practices within the scope of hospital policies. Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team. Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information. Collects Data related to physical, psychological, and psychosocial health status. Develops a plan of care and teaching plan based on assessed needs of patient and family. Revises same as diagnosis and needs dictate. As part of the nursing process, performs admission, handoff, transfer, and discharge procedures. Coordinates with physician’s plan of care, the admission assessment and discharge needs. Maintains compliance in RQI. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Minimum Education/Experience Required: Current licensure in the State of Ohio or if working in WV will need WV Licensure as a Registered Nurse required. BLS required upon hire. ACLS within 1 year of employment required. ASLS certification preferred upon hire. Stroke Education is required during orientation, and may include, but not limited to, access to stroke policies, completion of on-line stroke module education, NIHSS, ASLS & T-PA administration.
