Job Description Summary Performs tasks and procedures consistent with Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician Assistant's (PA) specialized knowledge, judgment, skill, training and education within the scope of his/her supervising physician. NP/PA will enter into and maintain a supervision agreement with a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Missouri. Under such agreement, the physician delegates to the NP/PA authority to deliver health care services and treatments, and to prescribe drugs, medications, devices or therapies which are specific to those clinical conditions treated by the supervising physician. Essential Functions: Creates patient problem list at first patient encounter and updates as appropriate at follow-up visits. Orders appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special examinations or tests according to clinical manifestations, preventative and/or health maintenance standards. Interprets and evaluates clinical data to determine appropriate diagnosis and need for therapeutic procedures or treatment. Consults with supervising physician or designee to provide health care services for conditions other than acute self-limited or well-defined problems. Establishes a plan of care/treatment and provides counseling and clear instructions to the patient regarding mental and physical health using jointly agreed upon procedures and protocols by PA and supervisory physician. Assists with or performs surgical procedures at the direction of the supervising physician; performs hospital rounds and documents patient progress notes as appropriate. Makes appropriate specialty referrals for patient treatment outside of scope of practice. Administers, dispenses, prescribes drugs and medications and/or medical supplies or therapies consistent with both supervising physician and own skill, training, education and competence and within the scope of practice of both. Establishes a process of timely review and management of abnormal test results as per supervision agreement. Maintains an ongoing timely process of submission of patient charts to supervisory physician or designee for review every 14 days as required by Missouri State Statute. Performs complete, detailed and accurate histories, and performs pre and post operative physical examinations, recording pertinent data in the electronic health record. Assists physician when performing health care services in the surgical setting. Administers, dispenses, prescribes drugs and medications and/or medical supplies and controlled substances when applicable with licensure and prescriptive authority, and authorized by collaborating physician and consistent with both collaborating physician and own skill, training, education and competence and within the scope of practice of both.
