Position Responsibilities: Demonstrates knowledge of EMTALA regulations governing patient transfers in and out of the Emergency Department. Performs age-specific triage, safety assessments, and trauma response evaluations for diverse patient populations. Interprets diagnostic data, including EKGs, arterial blood gases, and hemodynamic responses, initiating appropriate interventions. Monitors, evaluates, and documents patient responses to vasoactive medications and advanced cardiac therapies, including pacemaker management. Manages and monitors patients requiring mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy. Identifies and responds to crisis situations, including behavioral health emergencies, verbal de-escalation, and suicide or abuse risk. Develops, implements, and prioritizes individualized plans of care based on patient needs and acuity. Safely initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergent and critical situations. Administers IV therapy, medications, enteral feedings, and other ordered treatments in accordance with hospital policy. Provides ongoing patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning. Ensures accurate documentation of patient care, valuables, supplies, and charges. Performs wound care, dressing changes, specimen collection, glucose monitoring, and urinary catheterization using aseptic technique. Adheres to infection control standards, safety protocols, and proper use of restraints and unit-specific equipment. Coordinates safe and efficient patient transfers and discharges, ensuring complete documentation and handoff communication. Evaluates patient outcomes and progress toward goals, adjusting care plans to meet discharge criteria. Participates in professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and unit productivity through effective communication and delegation. Reports abnormal rhythm to physicians. · Competent in section, care of and discontinuation of catheters, tubes and/or drains (or assisting with the insertion). · Administers medication per physicians’ orders with zero errors, respecting patients’ rights and performing assessment, reassessment, assessing effectiveness and documentation according to hospital policy. · Responds to code blue in department, and initiates CPR. Demonstrates calm, professional manners during a crisis or emergency situation at all times within the patient care environment. · Initiates and maintains intravenous therapy as per hospital policy and infection control guidelines. Safety administers blood and blood products. · Adheres to and complies with all regulatory standards globally to profession and specific to unit, consistent with their scope of practice. · Conducts and documents initial vital signs and admission history, initiates an individualized plan of care, and prioritizes interventions based on patient needs. Ensures the physician is notified within 15 minutes of the patient’s arrival to the procedure area. · Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care. · Performs 24-hour chart check at the beginning of each procedure. · Performs preoperative and post operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift. · Performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching. · Plans, presents and documents unit in-service as required. · Aggregates and analyzes PI and RISK initiatives. · Assists Director with scheduling and assures accuracy of daily schedule sheets. · Ensures problem resolution for any issues. · Conducts staff meetings in collaboration with unit director. · Fosters teamwork and builds mutual understanding, respect and confidence among personnel and between departments. · Is responsible for providing leadership and direction for staffing in accordance with the organization goals and objectives and meets changing needs in the area(s) of responsibility. · Collects and interprets data to monitor the department’s performance and improve processes; and when applicable evaluates the outcomes related to the use of clinical practices guidelines. · All other duties assigned.
