Job Details APP- NP or PA – Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) FT – varied shifts (am and pm combined shifts) Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) team in a renowned hospital in New York. This position offers an opportunity to work with critically ill patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgeries and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, and respiratory therapists. Key Responsibilities: • Patient Assessment & Management: o Perform thorough assessments of critically ill cardiothoracic patients, including history, physical exams, and ongoing evaluations. o Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab results. o Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for patients in collaboration with the attending physicians and healthcare team. o Provide continuous monitoring and management of complex cases, including post-operative recovery, ventilation support, and hemodynamic management. • Procedural Support: o When complex privileging is obtained the ability to peform central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation/extubation, chest tube placement . o Provide post-procedure care and patient education, ensuring proper recovery and addressing potential complications. • Collaboration & Communication: o Work closely with attending cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care. o Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and support regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge processes. o Attend daily rounds to discuss patient progress, concerns, and updates. • Clinical Leadership & Education: o Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, residents, and fellows, providing guidance and education on clinical practices within the CTICU. o Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical research efforts within the unit. o Stay current with advancements in critical care medicine, particularly cardiothoracic care, and engage in continuing education. Qualifications: • Education & Experience: o Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Physician Assistant (PA), or equivalent advanced practice provider (APP) qualification. o Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Acute Care. Physician Assistant (PA), o Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), with a focus on cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery preferred. • Skills & Competencies: o Strong clinical skills in critical care management, with a deep understanding of post-operative cardiothoracic patient care. o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. o Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems. o Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail and providing compassionate care. IMT participants interact with homeless services, criminal justice, and behavioral health service systems. IMT teams are hired, trained and funded to maximize flexibility and continuity of care for persons who historically have been poorly served. IMT teams are multi-disciplinary and include psychiatry, nursing, social work, peer specialists and other staff members offering rehabilitation, treatment and recovery support services. The team provides expertise in the areas of housing, substance use and harm reduction, criminal justice, peer support and behavioral health recovery. Based on their area of expertise, team members collaborate to deliver comprehensive, integrated and flexible services that are responsive to a participant's choices, needs and goals. With a small staff to participant ratio, services are brought to the participant and offered in natural settings, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) functions as a primary practitioner who assesses and monitors IMT participants' clinical health and response to treatment. The nursing approach of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation is used to assists individuals in their achievement of mental health, rehabilitation and recovery goals.
