General Summary: Under the direction of the Office Manager, the Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties to care for patients in an ambulatory setting. Administrative duties include maintaining medical records, handling patient calls and completing forms. Clinical duties include measuring and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and administering medications as directed by physician or advance practice providers. The Medical Assistant plays an integral role in the care team model. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High school degree (or GED) required. Current Certification as Medical Assistant required. Keeps exam room stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintains instruments and prepares them for sterilization and storage. Provides clerical support which may include completing forms/requisitions, answering phones, sending/receiving medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. Cleans rooms between patient visits in accordance with infection prevention and control standards. Administers medications and immunizations under authorization and supervision of physicians and/or advance practice providers. Processes messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and advance practice providers. Processes messages and call backs to patients, medical offices and pharmacies. Processes medication refills according to protocols. Maintains all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperature, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, sterilization fluid charge etc.) Performs EKG’s and simple (CLIA waived testing) medical office laboratory and screening tests. Collects and processes blood samples and other non-blood specimens for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Participates in process improvement activities to enhance patient care and service.

Must maintain ACLS certification with re-certification every two (2) years. IR/NEURO IR RN: Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Assesses person’s served care needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and continually reassesses plan of care according to person’s served care needs. In collaboration with the physician, provides/coordinates nursing care to individuals and groups of person’s served. Assists in the teaching of persons’ served families, and provides milieu management. Communicates with and educates persons’ served families/significant others in discharge/after care planning needs. Provides a safe and secure environment for persons served and staff in both individual and group settings. Responsible for documenting, reporting, and verifying all necessary information according to established policies and procedures. Responsible to monitor for and report to the physician(s) any potential risk to person’s served safety that could lead to an adverse outcome. Creates a customer/client friendly environment by following quality improvement standards, maintaining professionalism, initiating and maintaining positive relationships with departments/programs, co-workers and external customers. Provides care in various clinical settings with diverse person’s served populations. Identifies specific person’s served needs and implements person’s served centered, compassionate care. Functions as a clinical leader, delegating/coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development. Responsible for the utilization and continued review of patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care. Gives input into process for improvement. May be responsible in training direct care staff. May be indirectly responsible for oversight of medication and physical health activities in a program. May be responsible for scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations. Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental and physical support to patients. In the community residential setting required to support and promote a recovery focused environment and person-centered approach within the program. Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training. What Does the Role Require? Education/Experience: Licensed to practice in the state of Michigan, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. May be required to have professional knowledge of psychiatric nursing theory as required through completion of education from an accredited school of nursing. Satisfactory previous clinical experience. Work Schedule : This position is onsite and may require both weekend and holiday hours. General Purpose of Job : The RN First Assistant is responsible in assisting the surgeon by applying demonstrated knowledge of safe perioperative nursing and assisting optimal outcomes for the patient. Throughout entire surgical process, the surgeon remains responsible for the patient. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. License / Certification / Registration : Michigan Registered Professional Nurse Licensure required. Certified in Operating Room Nursing (CNOR) Current Basic Life Support (ACLS/BLS/CPR) provider required. Successful completion of RNFA program based on the AORN core curriculum for the RNFA as its foundation. Completion of RNAS-C or CRNFA at first offering. - Preferred Maintain current professional liability insurance to function as an RNFA Experience : Previous surgical experience preferred. Skills & Abilities : Competence in basic cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation required, will train. Proficient in perioperative nursing practice as both scrub and circulator nurse for a minimum of five years. IMPLEMENTATION – Implements physician profile according to pre-planned profile requests. EVALUATION – Evaluates the patient’s response to nursing interventions and surgical interventions. EVALUATION – Evaluates profiles after every procedure and is responsible for corrections of the profile. IMPLEMENTATION – Performs nursing procedures, assists physicians, and uses equipment following established guidelines. LEGAL ISSUES – Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to safety and legal requirement established by the Hospital and Department of Nursing. Adheres to policies regarding surgical legalities. QUALITY IMPROVEMENT – Serves on the Quality Improvement Committee. PATIENT TEACHING – Provides for patient and significant others education based on the cognitive needs of each and defined by patient outcome goal. DOCUMENTATION – Documentation is concise, accurate and timely on patient record and other documents in the department. PATIENT/FAMILY RIGHTS – Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for patient’s legal rights and significant others rights including confidentiality. EMERGENCIES – Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established standards, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. PROFESSIONALISM – Maintains a current knowledge base and utilizes standards of care in professional practice.
