The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) positions are part of a collaborative team consisting of Attending Physicians, Fellows, and a team of advanced practice providers both NPs and PAs. The APP team is highly respected, we are seen as the go to team for the attendings. We actively participate in the education of fellows and visiting residents. Responsibilities for this role include: receiving sign-out from overnight team. Pre-rounding on assigned patients, developing a plan of care for the day for that patient, present patients on rounds, write a daily note, you will be responsible for implementing the plan agreed upon on during rounds and responding to any issues raised by the nurses during the course of the day. The advanced practice provider is credentialed to perform the following procedures: intubation, central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, PD drain placement, chest tube removal, pacing wire removal. Nurse Practitioner (NP): The Nurse Practitioner functions under the general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Process Protocol approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). The Nurse Practitioner provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints, in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. The RN First Assistant must adhere to standardized procedures and not concurrently function as a scrub nurse. Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients. Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds. Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary. Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed. Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources. Job Description Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Center for Reproductive Health (CRH) and UCSF Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the physician staff, the Registered Nurse (RN) role crosses care settings to promote health and healing for a specific patient population. The primary focus of the role is to improve access, timeliness to treatment and care coordination within the healthcare organization. The nurse performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for patients. The RN collaborates with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team in providing excellent clinical care to all patients attending CRH for medical services and treatment. The nurse consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor. The RN is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert and actively promotes the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions, demonstrates competence in the management of patient flow and daily clinic operations, and possesses expertise in the specialty nursing area and specific patient population of REI (Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility). The RN provides expert nursing care to all patients who are receiving assisted and routine reproductive techniques and services. These duties include in-person consultations with patients and/or their partners throughout the care continuum; patient treatment and medication instruction; EMR charting and documentation, preparing treatment schedules; assessment, management, and monitoring of patient medication needs; assisting with various clinical procedures; efficiently communicating all patient treatment and scheduling needs with the patient and the multidisciplinary team involved in their care; triaging patient phone calls and coordinating patient care between the various practice teams. The nurse will assess patient needs and, in collaboration with physicians, plan appropriate treatment interventions and evaluate patient response to treatments. The RN will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team comprised but not limited to: physicians, fellows, medical assistants, Practice Coordinators, front desk staff, billing staff, Patient Financial Navigators, anesthesiologists, embryologists, embryology and lab team members, procedure nurse team members and administration. The RN will assess health needs and perform functions specific to routine and assisted reproductive techniques, including but not limited to andrology, gynecological treatments, in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, fertility preservation for patients (oncology and gender transition), PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), endometriosis, and male urology patients (microsurgical sperm extraction). The RN will assess patient needs, develop appropriate plans of care according to nursing practice standards, and evaluate and participate in care for patients/couples during their reproductive health treatments, office visits, and IVF cycles. The nurse will utilize specialized knowledge and skills for evaluation and teaching within this patient population and may act as a resource person within the organization and/or community. Patients found on this unit are often admitted for acute exacerbations of complex chronic conditions with a focus on pulmonary, gastrointestinal, sickle cell, renal failure, medical-psychological, and endocrine conditions. In addition, patients are admitted for diagnostic work-up and treatment of new-onset infectious disease processes. Continuous video camera monitoring and cardiac telemetry are also available, if needed, to provide comprehensive, safe patient care. Collaboration between our physician colleagues (teaching services and attending services) and multidisciplinary teams contributes to the high functioning teamwork found on this unit. The unit is also supported by the Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), ACE RN Program Coordinator, Medical/Surgical CNS/Educators and an Oncology CNS.
