The General Internal Medicine unit is a 16-bed one-pod intermediate care medical oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients ranging in age from 18 -95. Patients treated on P4A include those with solid tumor cancers, such as colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancer who are on a spectrum of cancer care from pre-diagnosis to end of life. Patients are provided treatment for side effects and complications of their cancer care, as well as supportive care. Patients are typically admitted to the unit to manage effects of cancer treatment agents including infection, significant GI complications, cardiac complications, renal failure, hypotension, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Nursing interventions are focused on management of symptoms and side effects, as well as evaluation of patients' safety needs for disposition planning. Patient care also includes management of acute non-cancer related medical problems, collaboration with the inter-professional team for non-medical needs that may impact patient safety, and transition to supportive care as appropriate. Job Description We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus for DAYSHIFT . Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model. Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes. The 4 cohorts are: 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients. 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home. Summary The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic located in McAllen, TX is recruiting a full-time Instructor- Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA). The clinic was created in 2001 through a joint effort of the Vannie Cook Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital to provide local pediatric Hematology /Oncology care to the under-served children of the Rio Grande Valley. The clinic is an extension of the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center and is the region's first and only pediatric cancer and hematology treatment facility. Providing outpatient and inpatient care for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients at the Vannie Cook Clinic and several surrounding community hospitals. This position is considered 100% clinical. Outpatient duties include a full patient schedule, oversight of infusion room services, and managing calls from clinic staff, physicians, and families throughout the day. Inpatient care/on-call duties are covered as a member of a 4-team rotation. The inpatient/on-call rotation is 7 days and includes evening/weekend/holiday work. Inpatient care consists of daily rounds and work of the day, phone calls from hospital staff in the evening and coming in at night for acute needs as deemed necessary. In addition, the provider manages phone calls from parents via page operator on evening/ weekends/holidays. The provider will be credentialed at multiple local hospitals and will be traveling between hospitals as needed. Performing procedures (bone marrow, lumbar puncture) on patients as indicated in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. Completing orders, documentation and billing in a timely manner. Maintaining and completing all necessary regulatory requirements to remain compliant with COG and institutional research studies. Subspecialty backup and consultation exist via physicians at Texas Children's Hospital Main Campus.
