Job Requirements General Summary This role is considered for the new graduate or nurse with less than 12 months experience. The nurse will utilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice. . It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully meets all requirements of the Nurse Residency Program and Departmental Orientation. Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Conducts patient/family needs assessment; initiates and documents patient/family education, seeks guidance in advocating the patient/family needs when appropriate. Delivers care consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient centered care. Professional Development Responsible for accessing education applicable to own professional development; focus on completion of competencies appropriate for patient care setting. Successful completion of orientation. Accountable for achieving/maintaining requirements for unit practice. Assists with precepting students, unlicensed assistive personnel or peer for isolated days (not accountable for entire orientation); may assist with share days or shadow days. Completes CE’s on an annual basis based on the facility minimum requirements. Service/Quality Becomes familiar with National Hospital Quality Measures, National Patient Safety Goals, Quality Indicators, Nursing Sensitive Indicators, and Facility Annual Operating Plan. Aware of patient and team member satisfaction scores and contributes to unit initiatives for improvement. Participates in some or all elements of research/EBP/QI. Provides high quality, safe, patient centered care with focus on exceeding service expectations. Maintains regulatory requirements for overall readiness; participates in tracer activities when requested. Patient Safety Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority. Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in the performance of assigned duties. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or unit patient safety initiatives. Operations Supports Charge Nurse role and demonstrates basic understanding of the role. Actively contributes to teamwork (cooperates with peers, flexible with assignments, takes admissions as required, etc). Attends briefings/staff meetings regularly. Aware of and supports unit, nursing division, and organizational governance structure. Participates in recruitment and retention activities at the unit level. Provides feedback in peer review as requested. Qualifications Work Experience Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. Current AHA BLS certification required. Basic computer skills are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
About this Job: General Summary of Position The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. Position may float to other sites/locations within the system. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality and safety standards. Conducts motivational interviews that include patient screening and/or coaching on disease management ability motivation to change learning care needs and community outreach needs. Identifies potential behavioral health needs of patients using appropriate screening tools and notifies provider of findings. As part of a High Reliability Organization reports actual and potential problems concerning patients families and associates using established reporting protocols for MedStar Health and/or work location. Participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety. Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory accreditation and quality/safety standards by maintaining and auditing temperature logs ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired checking and maintaining emergency equipment area free of clutter and other related tasks. Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations served and engages the patient in self-management support care/health goal setting pre-visit planning and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities. Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice including but not limited to Point of Care Testing tuberculosis skin testing electrocardiography pulmonary function tests and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon provider and site requirements). Removes sutures/staples after the provider has examined the patient and written the appropriate order. Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or other venues based on policy. Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR; performs required patient follow-up: to include pap smears Pb levels HIV mammograms and STD's. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records. Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy. Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned which many include: Light cleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories. Provides telephone screening services to gather information from patients determine appropriate disposition and document per established telephone screening protocols. Under onsite provider supervision may insert intravenous catheter for physician initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications. Under direct onsite physician supervision may insert remove and monitor urinary catheter for procedures and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal subcutaneous and intramuscular. May perform phlebotomy. Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization. Floats to other sites/locations within the system as appropriate and performs all duties at multiple sites. Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required. Job Requirements This is a Spine & Neurovascular Acute Floor focusing on many neurological disorders under four services: Neurosurgery, Ortho Spine Surgery, General Neurology, and Stroke Neurology. Some of these diagnoses may be ischemic stroke, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders, cervical fusions, lumber fusions, etc. Staffing mix on this floor include the Registered Nurse, Patient Care Technician, and Charge RN all working 12 hours shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a). Nursing team works collaboratively with other services to safely get patients to a safe disposition of home or rehab. Patients on this floor range from being medically ready to be discharged or acutely ill and requiring a longer hospital stay. The Triage RN reports to Associate Clinical Director. He/she is responsible for triaging patient and caregiver telephone calls, assisting in the solution, palliation of symptoms and provision of education. The Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit is a 14-bed unit providing treatment for patients whose psychiatric symptoms may be the result of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease, neurodegenerative disorders or head traumas. As a Registered Nurse/RN you will: Perform a full range of professional psychiatric nursing services, including assessing, planning, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with team treatment plans. The Johns Hopkins Hospital Psychiatric Acute Inpatient Unit, Schizophrenia (Meyer 5) is a 19 bed unit specializing in the treatment of schizophrenia psychotic disorders as well as treatment of psychiatric disorders that may include evidence of disruption in behavior, cognition, or mood. This unit features a Schizophrenia Day Hospital that provides ongoing/treatment interventions such as pharmacotherapy, individual and group psychotherapy, and psycho-education groups. Qualifications : BSN/MSN preferred. Must be from an accredited nursing program. Applicants with an Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program may be considered; provided they are enrolled in an accredited BSN/MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete the degree within 5 years of hire.
